I made a li'l cookbook! *After the Feast* suggests ways to use up leftovers from your big turkey dinners.

The PDF is FREE. If you buy a print copy, $2 will support food security initiatives through the Qajuqturvik Community Food Centre.

Please spread the word! 🍗

Hey, I know everything’s tight, but Rob was a great advocate for our #ttrpg community, a fine game writer himself, and has sadly left his family behind in the capitalist hellscape. I’ve given a bit and ask you to consider it if you can.

Part of me wonders if both this attitude and its opposite come from the same place. I'm fond of teachers in general, but let's not pretend there are no bad ones out there.

The funny thing is how there are also people who look at movies as solvable puzzles, for which there is a correct answer (e.g., "xyz is a metaphor for death"), and seemingly forget to enjoy the movie as entertaining in its own right
2ndlevelbard.bsky.social
I've met people - smart people! - for whom *any* analysis of deeper meaning, looking at metaphors, parallels, symbolism, ruins their entertainment. They'll use that exact word: "That would ruin it for me."

I don't know why this is (though I have theories), but it's absolutely a thing.

Or - let me make an effort to describe this in the least derogatory way possible:

There are folks for whom TV shows are fundamentally the same as a nice view from a scenic overlook.

"That's a pretty thing to look at." They don't need to be fascinated by the geology, or also be birdwatching, etc.

All of this to say, please let the paperwork and infrastructure nerds do their thing right now, and please understand that overhauling a system doesn't happen in a week

If we're gonna do it, let's do it right, please.

We need more than punching nazis to get out of this

Such a delight to hear the @dungeondudes.bsky.social and @jamesjhaeck.bsky.social heaping (much deserved!) praise on @mikerunderwood.bsky.social on this week's Eldritch Lorecast. And now I'm REALLY psyched for the Daggerheart version of Drakkenheim.

A codified 4-day work week.
We simply want to protect the way we've been working for over 3.5 years. The 4dww has proven benefits, such as increased productivity and improved employee satisfaction. It's part of what makes Kickstarter a special, innovative place to work.
Fair pay for our lowest-paid workers.
We're fighting for livable minimum salaries for roles that are undervalued by the market but crucial to keeping Kickstarter running. We believe none of our workers should struggle to make ends meet. Creators

I can’t begin to tell you how damaging “the world isn’t fair, get used to it” line has been to every child’s psyche growing up and therefore has led to a world that stays unfair. If we teach children to get used to an unfair world, we are destroying the possibility of a better world.

Without further ado, here is the trailer for Jeffrey Epstein: Bad Pedophile.

Against all odds, it will air in select theatres on October 2nd, along with the theatrical debut of Sex House.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow.

And, yes, this is real.

Designing a game puts you in a weird space where you have one foot in the emotional and creative space of the fiction author, and another foot in the clinical, explanatory space of the technical writer.

I know this is a radical position that will probably enrage people

But hear me out:

What if this thing we call autism is just the way some peoples’ brains work

Not an illness. Not a brain injury. Not a defect.

Some. Peoples’. Brains. Are. Different.

And they don’t need to be fixed

Dear eugenicists: There have always been autistic people. There will always be autistic people. Autism is not polio. It is not a disease to be eliminated. The world is so much better and more interesting with the spectrum of neurodiversity than it would be without it.

We're not going anywhere.

As @dandrezner.bsky.social notes, we must highlight where Trump's authoritarianism is failing, too.

"Civil resistance works. Combined with the inevitable economic downturn, it is what will bring his regime crashing down to Earth."

I also disagree with this. I feel much more mental load starting a novel than a short story collection. I'll often devour several collections in shorter time than it takes me to read a novel. A novel is a *commitment*. Short stories don't have that stress attached.
strantzas.bsky.social
There’s a heavy mental load buying a book of ten short stories, much heavier than buying a novel where there’s only one story. And the more books of stories you write, the more daunting that mental load becomes. (7/9)
2ndlevelbard.bsky.social
This is a very strange sentiment coming from a writer about whose work I've long felt "Yes, please keep putting out new collections, I want to read them all"

This isn't the way it works when you love someone's art.
strantzas.bsky.social
I wonder if it wouldn’t be better to only publish 2 or 3 short story collections at most over a career. Once you get past 5, who really wants to keep reading them? Isn’t around fifty short stories enough to get the gist of what a writer’s all about? With 2 or 3, you leave them wanting more. (8/9)
