It was six years ago today that a man in Wuhan, China began feeling ill.

He would become the first known COVID case.

Covid is still with us. It’s still killing and disabling.

Clean the air. Wear a mask. Get your boosters.

Public health is a social justice issue.

I wrote about Oura's security and privacy practices earlier this year for this.weekinsecurity.com, and found:

• Oura rings *don't* end-to-end encrypt users' health data;
• Oura *can* access its users' data;
• Oura told me that the company *has* received U.S. government demands for users' data.

The Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs (UBCIC) says it’s against the memorandum of understanding that Canada and Alberta Thursday morning.

The MOU explicitly endorses the construction of a massive new bitumen pipeline from Alberta to the B.C. coast.

People "opposed to the data center shared concerns about transparency, asked board members if they had signed non-disclosure agreements, and decried 'tech billionaires' coming into their rural community. This is effed up—Tehran is thousands of years old. Water insecurity is a problem that’s only going to get worse, buckle up folks.
”If it doesn’t rain in Tehran by late November, we’ll have to [formally] ration water. And if it still doesn’t rain, we’ll have to evacuate Tehran.”

Tehran is running out of water. The situation is so dire that Iran's president is insisting that the capital city must relocate.

11 years ago today, 12 year old Tamir Rice was gunned down by police officers on Cleveland’s west side.

The officer shot him within seconds of arriving at the park he was playing in.

Tamir’s life mattered. It still does. My thoughts are with his family today.

Remember the recent middle-of-the-night apartment building raid where children were dragged outside naked & zip-tied in the street while black & Latino residents were _sorted by race_ and piled into separate vans while their apartments were ransacked & robbed? That raid? So it resulted in 0 arrests.

Went to Toronto for a conference and was literally the only person at the conference wearing a mask. Saw one or two people walking around downtown with masks, but didn’t see anybody on my train wearing one. I don’t get it. It’s winter, we can keep ourselves from getting sick—why don’t we do it?
