Since I'm boycotting NYT I can't tell if their criticism still blindly accepts the framing of these being drug smugglers or if they acknowledge that they are more likely targeting coyotes w/ migrants on board.

Besides which, the Ms are up 2-0 in the ACLS. I'm not sure they'd notice the Second Coming at this point.

The key thing from the article though was not to suggest that protein powders are fundamentally dangerous but that people who use them every day face increased risks.

Likewise *If* there was lead in tofu it probably wouldn't be an issue...

...unless you're eating a whole block a day. 😅

Worth noting that per the article, plant-based protein powders among the types tested were the worst performers overall in terms of frequency and quantity of heavy metals. 9x more than their dairy counterparts.

So turns out I am a CR subscriber and could read the whole article. No shade on the tofu, but this is an important call-out from the piece:

The lead levels in plant-based products were, on average, nine times the amount found in those made with dairy proteins like whey, and twice as great as beef-based ones. Dairy-based protein powders and shakes generally had the lowest amounts of lead, but half of the products we tested still had high enough levels of contamination that CR’s experts advise against daily use.
