running for president in '28, my entire campaign is just two posters, one picturing prominent members of the current administration beneath the banner headline "PRISON", and another of all the leading techbros beneath the banner headline 'WE WILL TAKE ALL THEIR MONEY'

So much of this Platner discourse is both condescending and highly offensive to the millions of blue-collar and rural Americans who go to work and love their neighbors and would never dream of getting a Nazi tattoo and don’t say racist or sexist stuff

Bertrand Russell was great, but he was literally an earl. There are levels of “calm” and “cool” available to those with status and privilege that work less well, less reliably, for regular people.

The idea that everyone can (and must) face down fascism with this kind of equipoise is simply false.
This calm, cool decency is dangerously absent from our discourse at the moment. Almost everyone is embracing, normalising or ignoring the 'cruel bigotry, compulsive violence, and the sadistic persecution which has characterised the philosophy and practice of fascism.'
We need more Bertrands.
Bertrand Russell to Oswald Mosley. Perfection.

Of course women don't like the Cybertruck.

Women only want one thing, and it's donkeys carrying lambs up the Italian Alps in special pouches.

"Oh so there's no path to redemption?" Sure there is. Most paths to redemption don't run through the U.S. Senate, though. Go, live a good life. Farm oysters. Diminish and go into the East and be an always improving Graham Platner. Do not be a Senator. And remove that fucking tat.
I'm also always banging on about this, and it has helped me really adjust my perceptions of some people who appear to view food banks as primarily a dumping ground for tbeir own dented cans.

We can participate in democracy and be flawed while also having non-negotiable. No nazis. No racists. We aren’t abandoning trans people. Triple the minimum wage. Universal healthcare. Reproductive freedom. Etc etc etc. Stand for something! Appeasement accomplishes very little.

We are not In the business of winning back losers. Fix your hearts or die.
"How do you expect to win back men...?"

We don't want those men. They are the hot dogs on the floor of humanity and we still have all these nice prepped hamburger patties if someone would just let them cook.

friends, I'm beginning* to think Mike Johnson is not only evil but bad at his job
Johnson: “People have said, ‘Are you going to change your strategy?’ And I’ve said to you all, very plainly in good faith, we don’t have a political strategy here. I don’t have a strategy.”
hey dark moon, get those motherfuckers, love you!

I honestly think that trying to legislate what was in Platner's heart and what/when he understood is a trap. It doesn't matter to me.

It's actually okay to just go, "man I'd love to believe you've changed but I'm going to need to see proof of it in a place with lower stakes than the US Senate"

You have to be willing to walk away from these guys if they let you down, just as a matter of basic self respect. It's not a fandom. You're hiring them to do a job or not.
I liked the Platner ads too but I think there's a difference between "guy who had some bad reddit posts a decade ago" and "ex-Blackwater merc who still has a Nazi tattoo." Sucks bigtime that he's the only one taking positions and talking policy I like, but them's the breaks!
Bookbinding is really fun, and even ones that come out warped & dorky work for notepads.

Gotta say this whole "nazi phases aren't normal, nobody i know ever had a nazi phase"

Reminds me a lot of the saying about all women know someone who has been raped, but no man ever seems to know a rapist

Math ain't mathing here
very cool article!
When the gallerist Jane Lombard started her career in the ’90s, she joined a delegation that traveled to Poland to help artists show their work in the US before the Cold War ended. Three decades later, she sits at her desk in Tribeca, discussing how to stand against authoritarianism in America.
Jane Lombard Looks Back at 30 Years of Art and Politics
The New York gallerist’s exhibition 30 X 30 reflects the works she has enjoyed the most — and their incisive and sometimes bracing sociopolitical message.
