Hot take: every elected official & every judge should have to meet with everyday constituents for two (2) hours every week. Just whoever signs up, decided by lottery. And each constituent gets a full 5 minutes. The official has to sit there and listen - absolutely not allowed to leave the room.

I don't know why I keep being surprised that People & USA Today publish reality-based reporting on that guy instead of the disingenuous fantasland of Wapo/NYT: they've been at it for a while!
Also, extra credit points for the scabies mention.

This this this this this. We desperately need fantasies of truth and justice because there sure as hell isn't any in the real world. Too much detective backstory gets in the way of that pleasure.
EXACTLY but most of the more recent adaptations misunderstand the importance of an inscrutable little man as a tool to realize our fantasies of truth & justice!!!

Is this why the last great tech invention for normies was arguably the robot vacuum and now we're just getting plagiarism machines and refrigerators with screens?
I have a theory about this. Regular people want tech to reduce our real-life burdens: cooking, errands, dishes, and definitely laundry. Rich tech bros already have "staff" to take care of all that for them, so they don't care. 1/

***What if the true genius in the world is the sum of our lives lived in safety and freedom?***
We're running out of good ideas. Providing food security, shelter security, and free at point of use healthcare will absolutely help us find new ones.

What if the true genius in the world is the sum of our lives lived in safety and freedom?
This column on Vox is the biggest pile of steaming AI crap I've seen this year. Human's aren't running out of ideas. Instead, those with power and money don't want to listen to ideas that threaten their power and money.

Ideas are plentiful. Putting those ideas into action is the hard part.

When I volunteered at the Austin Nature & Science Center 300 years ago, this was phrased to me as "their heads are full of optic nerves & murder. There's no room for anything else."
Me to same owl handler: "Owls are super wise, right? They read loads of highbrow Russian literature and stuff, don't they?"

Owl handler: "No, they actually have very tiny brains, due to the hugeness of their eyes. In reality they are one of the thickest animals you could ever meet."

“In 2029 we will rebuild the White House as it was, and pay for it by seizing the assets of the Trump family.”
It is important to promise, now, that whatever Trump builds at the White House will be torn down as soon as he leaves.
