I often cite stats like LA County having a larger population than 40 states.

Or being over 4,000 sq miles. (LA City alone is over 500 sq miles!)

But this one is pretty mindblowing ... just IMMIGRANTS in LA are a larger population than 17 states? Whoa.

If the 3 million immigrants in LA County formed their own state, it would be more populous than 17 existing states.

This is why LA was top of mind for Trump & his ilk.

The County’s moved should be lauded - but this is too little & almost too late.

We need more $$$ and resources for our community.

It’s telling that the cover of the album isn’t a picture of D’Angelo himself. It’s a scanned frame of 16mm footage filmed at the Afropunk Festival in 2014 that pictures the crowd raising their hands in protest at the killing of Michael Brown.

What D’Angelo said Black Messiah means. It came out at the end of 2014 and it was so needed.

half of my work is helping these organizations with strategic planning and building fundraising plans, designing org narratives when they haven't defined their work and mission in cohesion. All that ground work leads to securing funding.

it's official, i've gotten over $100,000 in grant funds in 8 months for brand new, small nonprofits and fiscally-sponsored orgs. i feel very proud of myself and this little business i've started, helping the most underserved communities.

i remember the first time I heard D'Angelo's "Devil's Pie" in Belly and immediately knew I was never going to be the same after that just incredible song. He will always be a legend and he deserved so much more ease than this life.

thinking about my white ex-mentor who left my MA alma mater to join renowned faculty at my PhD alma mater then worked to remove the only Native prof who founded the dept and a crucial field of study in our discipline. The racist ex-mentor fled to UTA and does work around gender (not race) and welp.
