Roberts is saying that the court's own precedent from a couple of years ago, where it ruled that Alabama had to draw racial fair maps, doesn't apply to this (identical) case, essentially because the Alabama case was poorly argued.
It's a terrible argument, but the hill Roberts is gonna die on.

I just checked and this is real. It's on Border Patrol's official Instagram (I don't see it on Facebook) and is being celebrated by Nazis on Twitter, as you can see in the screenshot.

The clip is just 13 seconds long too, so it's a very intentional thing. We've got a Nazi government.

I was a Young Republican for a brief time in the 1980s (for real). I promise you they talked like this back then. They didn’t know I was Jewish, so the Holocaust jokes flowed freely. It all helped radicalize me against the right.

It was my first real encounter with overt white hatred, and the first time I experienced whiteness policing itself like that.

And that’s what the Young Republicans chats are - a way whiteness polices itself. They try to commit you to being racist to bond you to their cause.

I suffered it arguing with them for a few days — these were my friends and they knew where I slept — before I gave up on changing them and broke off from the larger friend group.

During the year, a bunch in my dorms organically formed a Counter-Strike group. And within a year, some of that same shit started showing up in chat. Different guys!

They thought it was so fucking funny that I’d be pissed and told them to knock it off.

I came up in Indianapolis Public Schools and was mortified — I’d NEVER encountered people comfortable saying shit like this.

Like, I hung out after school growing up with other white boys and we would NEVER.

But those college freshman kids from Republican Indiana? Whew.

I remember my very first night in the dorms at Ball State, finding myself hanging in a room with maybe 10 other white boys (the floor had TWO non-white kids) and they were soon firing off n-word jokes. Like, that was their getting-to-know-you bonding game. In 2000.

I just got up and left.

The Young Republican chats sound exactly like some Counter-Strike chats I encountered back in 2002. I mean, exactly.

I don’t know about formal channels but some sector of young white people have been socializing with that language a long time. It’s nothing new.

If I may be a presumptuous internet person… one pitfall for me was “workout” drinks like C4.

I was drinking them as a coffee substitute. Those drinks work by, like, opening up the dam in your liver, making your blood absorb more… stuff… that’s… not great when on SSRIs.
