I don’t believe that a US-born American citizen currently in the US has “papers.” “Papers” usually refer to a green card (a card that indicates one is a Legal Permanent Resident) or a visa.

On that note, I don’t know if work authorization counts as “papers.”

I am hesitant to renew my passport (book) because the renewal process requires you to mail in your passport before you can receive a new passport book or a passport card.

Now I’m apprehensive that armed goons will detain and zip tie me despite 1) speaking better English than an average American and 2) carrying my passport around because they don’t understand that women can take their husband’s last name.

I took my husband’s very British last name after we got married. At Creighton Law, a new white VAP approached me, asked my name, and then asked me if I was certain that my name wasn’t Chloe Sanchez. (Maybe it was Suarez or Saenz? I don’t remember her very well.) 🤨

In the 2010s, my hubby was driving, ran a red light, and got into a minor accident. The passengers were 2 older white ladies who demanded to see *my* ID because they claimed “it’s the law.” I disagreed. I knew what they were doing.

This is one of my fears. Many people look at me and assume I must be undocumented or that I don’t speak English.

The entire incident is infuriating and terrifying. She’s a Latina woman who was working a service job. On her way home late at night, with her headphones in, she was detained for an hour by masked federal agents who wouldn’t give her their names.
Maria Greeley, 44, had just finished working a double shift at the Beach Bar on Ohio Street
earlier this month when she said she was surrounded by three federal agents who grabbed her, forced her hands behind her back and zip tied her.
Headphones in, Greeley had been focused on getting home to her two dogs for a walk.
Instead, she said she was detained by masked agents who did not answer when she asked for names. They questioned her for an hour, she said.

Just watched the Harmony Gold edited dub of the Lensman, which luckily has been preserved by fans since it never got a home video release, and it's interesting how the various nips & tucks HG made when it came to editing results in a massive change in pacing.

It's essentially nonstop all the way.

NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.

And then there were none: Australia's only shrew declared extinct. The shrew's extinction increases the tally of Australian mammals extinct since 1788 to 39 species. This is far more than for any other country phys.org/news/2025-10...

It's official: the only Australian shrew is no more.

Windows 10 support ends tomorrow.

They designed it to be EVERGREEN. The UI is still modern. It works flawlessly. Users love it.
Microsoft is killing their most successful OS for literally no reason except to push Windows 11.

This is customer-hostile nonsense.

One thought that few seem to care to utter is that you can't have viewpoint diversity to any great degree if you keep hiring people from the same four schools, all having the same professors. You get the view of one segment of a class hierarchy.

I’m enjoying the retaking of frogs. I always felt incredibly sad for the original illustrator of pepe who had his creation stolen and exploited

My mom lived with my aunt for a little while. They registered their number under my aunt’s dog’s name, Coco. They would have fun when random sales people called asking to speak with Coco.

I still remember old friend’s phone numbers. And old home phone numbers. 717-3820. 398-1819. 790-9491. 464-5194. 460-6079.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Other fav Lizzie Bordon fact: not having a lot of friends/family after the trial, she left $30k in her will to the “Animal Rescue League of Fall River, Massachusetts, which benefits from her first—and final—bequest to this day” after wisely investing it. 🗃️
