(on top of which everyone left of the late, unlamented John McCain should be happy to wear masks in public as often as possible, in the current political circumstances.)

I can't swear no one ever has, but I've certainly never SEEN a masking advocate doing any "demanding". and angrily/defensively overreacting to a reasonable, polite request to do something easy and only very slightly inconvenient, for the significant benefit of others, is…a choice.

well I could list some other things from 20+ years ago that I'm still angry at myself for, if you'd like
smadin.net
and for another thing, this is the exact same dynamic that's been happening for over five years
smadin.net
masking discourse is so weird, because, for one thing, one person will be like "to demonstrate solidarity with disabled and immuno-compromised people, please consider wearing a mask in indoor public spaces" and someone else will go "how DARE you make this DEMAND for ETERNAL UNIVERSAL MASKING"

There's no reason to believe "AI" is inevitable, except that technofascist backers in gov't and business will find a way to destroy us to maintain their investment. We didn't/don't believe lies from big banks/big oil, why are we believing technofascists? AI is neither inevitable nor unavoidable.

Once in my early 20s, still new to bars and clubs, I went to see a show, didn't understand tipping etiquette, and got an earful from the bartender about it. He was right, of course, and I'm still mortified whenever I think about it.

Or did you mean still mad at someone other than myself?
johnmoe.bsky.social
What meaningless thing/experience are you still mad about? Like it should not matter at all, DOES not matter at all. But you’re still MAD.

And how long has it been?

I bought some bagels at Hy-Vee four years ago. So bad. Too big. Hard. Bland. WORTHLESS.

I’m still FURIOUS.

"ICE shouldn't use full body restraints"
"ICE shouldn't use teargas"
"ICE shouldn't break into homes without warrants"

ICE shouldn't exist. We don't have to split hairs, energy, and resources. Its a private military that circumvents limitations on deploying military force on citizens.

Here's the thing.

I feel like, if you'd spoken to a group of women, of any & all backgrounds, they could have predicted this. Same-same Black people. Same-same LGBTQIA+ folks. Same-same Jews.

I'm never surprised when men ~joke~ about raping women & non-Jews about shoving Jews into ovens.

Members of the Unpresidented Brass Band were bull rushed & brutalized in the middle of playing "Ghostbusters." One was sent to the hospital and another tackled, arrested, and taken across state lines where she is still being detained.

it's so fun how "originalism" means the text of the Constitution can only ever mean what its authors would have understood it to mean in the context of their time, except if that text was written between 1864 and 1870.

Spent all day reading briefs in Louisiana v. Callais and watching white people argue that the 14th amendment is a race-neutral colorblind amendment and citing Plessy for that proposition has me so angry. Just.. come the fuck on.

The Reconstruction Amendments were not intended to be race-neutral.

Just so everyone is clear, the main issue in the Supreme Court voting rights case tomorrow is whether it's racist against white people to enforce the Voting Rights Act.

I'm dead serious. We live in incredibly stupid times.

Hey look, Israel broke the cease-fire, twice, in two different ways, within 24 hours - again.

NEW: Israel informed the UN it will permit only 300 aid trucks into Gaza daily, not the 600 mandated by the ceasefire it just signed.

There is no conceivable argument that these ships, even if we assume they were carrying narcotics, could not be dealt with in some other way. I think we can just drop the caveats and say: This is mass murder.
chrislhayes.bsky.social
Unless and until some kind of compelling legal and moral argument is presented as to why this is a legitimate use of deadly force, this is just…mass murder.

When we write or draw porn or erotica, we get banned from having a bank account and our livelihoods get seized even if we give it away for free.

When billionaires steal what we've written or drawn to churn out a slop-approximate of porn, they're allowed to charge for it.

Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year
We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

Literally nothing coming from the Pentagon, DHS, or DOJ should be considered credible unless backed up by an independent source outside of government. (This, for the record, is a huge problem!)

remigrate is not a dog whistle, and is open nazi language
Remigration

Not to be confused with Return migration.
Remigration is an originally European far-right proposal of ethnic cleansing[1] via the mass deportation of non-white immigrants and their descendants, sometimes including those born in Europe, to their place of racial ancestry.[2][3] It is popular especially within the Identitarian movement.[4][5] Some proponents of remigration suggest excluding some persons with non-European background from such a mass deportation, based on a varyingly defined degree of assimilation into European culture.[6][7][8]
