What I'd just say to you is, ok #StraightUpMcAnulty caught Tama out lying in parliament today but personally I'm honoured. After all, imitation is the highest form of flattery.

'Why do I have to keep proving I'm dying?' Dying Kiwis rate NZ's compassion
Government agencies score lowest in world-first reviews by terminally ill New Zealanders and those who care for them.

It’s ironic that this happens the day after the Luxon Govt announced it will make the climate crisis worse by letting the dairy industry off the hook for its superheating methane emissions.

Once again, we're doing:

- Climate destruction
- Environmental destruction
- Science destruction
- Healthcare destruction
- Deregulation as per big biz
- Racism
- Tax breaks for rich people
- Special visas for rich people
- Voter suppression

But this is New Zealand, not America #nzpol

NZ's govt has announced reforms to science funding

just one line about basic science in there: "Discovery-led science & research will continue to be funded. This will sit outside the pillars & is essential for maintaining vibrant curiosity-driven science system"

yea mate seems like a real priority
A new strategy for the science system | Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment
The Government is changing how science, innovation and technology are funded and supported in New Zealand. The goal is a simpler and more strategic system that helps researchers turn ideas into solutions that benefit New Zealand.

The protection of the environment for the benefit of all is a left-right issue. Here’s why:

Who benefits from environmental destruction? The rich. Who pays for it? Everyone else. Who pays the most? The poorest people in society. It doesn’t get more starkly left-right than that.

Like most of the science system reforms this year, there's some good ideas here but the overarching direction this government dictates for research ('value for the private sector') is not one that will actually lead to good research

“ALL of Florida lost its [interlibrary loan] services as of October 1. This, of course, most harms those in rural communities. That means those with the most to lose and with the weakest access to education and entertainment materials are now wholly dependent on what their own library owns…”
The Current State of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (October 2025 Edition)
Grant money that should be going to library projects is going to state-sponsored propaganda, among other IMLS updates.

To sum up we're likely spending ~$700m per ferry to get worse ferries than the two we ordered for $550m total
huiasue.bsky.social
So-orig it was $551m for 2 top of the line Korean rail ferries delivered this year & next. It cost National $671m to cancel them. We don’t know the added price for these Chinese Ferries-hopefully they won’t be full of asbestos like the rail carriages were #nzpol www.1news.co.nz/2025/10/14/g...

Stay Weird Portland! 🔥 Today Portland had an emergency naked bike ride to the ICE facility. IN THE RAIN.

It was around 50°. Thousands were fully nude, half nude, or wearing costumes.

Portland is VERY dedicated to exposing the absurdities of injustice.

Here are some photos & videos. 🧵👇🏼

New Zealand govt has not only unbunckled it's seatbelts, it guzzling down leaded petrol & farting methane in the face of technology

Grid scale batteries are changing our electricity system. Excellent new visual story on batteries in FT today shows just how far this technology has evolved.

Fasten your seatbelts, this is just the beginning.

Warming waters cause corals to “bleach” when these organisms expel symbiotic algae that provide nutrients, oxygen & vibrant colors.

The latest global bleaching event - researchers estimate >84% of the planet's coral ecosystems have been affected since Jan 2023 - has made it clear the crisis is now.

a lot of people want to read Trump and team's fossil fuel obsession as being about *money* but while there is of course a corruption element, it's primarily pure culture war stuff. even many of the big fossil fuel companies want to get into renewables because it's so obviously the future.

Coal production and employment in Wyoming has steadily been declining, much like the rest of the industry in the US.

Coal is a dead industry.

(Chart from here: www.uwyo.edu/cbea/wyoming... )
Graphs showing coal production (left) and employment in coal (right) for the state of Wyoming from 1983 to 2020 from the linked website.
