If you live in North America it's pretty easy to think of the Xbox as a real alternative to the other consoles and even a popular choice, but the more you look into it, the more it becomes abundantly clear that Xbox was never that big of a threat to the status quo, they got a headstart on the PS3.

And what did that headstart cost them? A console with a 50% failure rate and a disc drive that ate discs like candy, a lack of actual innovation because they were so stuck on trying to solve hardware problems, and when everyone was out of ideas they tried to imitate the winner (the Wii) and flopped.

These are the Xbox glory years. Yeah, you got the good Halo's and the good Gear's and some Forza's, but they had absolutely no idea what the brand was or what to do with the console and how to carry it forward, they fluked into the PS3 being a nightmare and even that stopped mattering after a while.
