Good.
It looks like UCP cabinet minister Nathan Neudorf’s plan to split the City of Lethbridge into 3-4 sprawling rural-urban ridings wasn’t adopted by the commission. The city retains the 2 urban ridings it’s had since 1971.
I broke the story on Neudorf’s plan here: daveberta.substack.com/p/ucp-mla-na...

Today, I submitted 456,365 Albertans’ signatures to Elections Alberta, petitioning the Premier to do the right thing, avoid a divisive and economically harmful referendum, and allow MLAs to vote and reaffirm that Alberta’s future is in Canada.🇨🇦

Alberta is #ForeverCanadian
Yes please
Local woman wakes up, gets Danielle Smith a new job in Saudi Arabia, sends all the separatists to join her there, promotes Naheed Nenshi to premier, makes oatmeal.

If other unions stand up for the teachers, then every Albertan—parents with school children, university students, seniors, Forever Canadians, minorities, immigrants—should all stand up with them.

I’m just a Canadian, looking at her fellow Canadians, begging them to connect the dots between rising anti immigrant sentiment and what is happening in the states.

AI is like that time I woke up and found a U2 album I didn't ask for on my iPod.

I don't want it. I didn't ask for it. Leave me alone.
Remember how mad everyone got when we burned it down 200 years ago?
Scoop: Trump has started demolishing the White House's East Wing facade to build his ballroom. The president had claimed construction of the $250 million building wouldn’t ‘interfere’ with the existing White House structure. /W @ddiamond.bsky.social wapo.st/4hqBNiU

Same problem in publishing and film.

Everyone gets paid long before the writer, and then it's pennies on the dollar, if we're lucky.

People can't create like this.

We shouldn't have to create like this.

There's no product without us, yet we get told it's more important to pay everyone else.

Maybe today is the day I throw my computer into the sea.
This is the future of Windows. Microsoft wants to rewrite Windows to turn computers into AI PCs that you talk to. It's now bringing AI features to all Windows 11 PCs today, in a bid to convince you to talk to your PC and let AI control it. Full details 👇 www.theverge.com/news/799768/...

This two-parter below is exactly why it's hard to make clothes in the United States.

Let's look at how much it costs to produce a button-up shirt in the US. 🧵

GenAI truly was the worst technology to come along at this moment.

An energy and water guzzler when we most urgently need to take climate action.

A disinformation machine as our journalism fails.

A bias machine as fascism takes root.

A job killer in a cost of living crisis.
The "cognitive decline and brain damage from repeat COVID infections" and "easy to use robot that makes slop and melts your critical thinking skills" is a hell of a combo in a post-fact media ecosystem

You don't become an artist who's any good if you don't love the work itself. Even the parts that are a struggle.

What we don't love is the marketing, promo, admin, etc. When you start, you don't think you're signing up to be a wildly underpaid arts admin, but 80% of professional art time is this.
there’s this weird idea a lot of people seem to have about how all of us writers and artists must secretly want to use AI and are merely resisting temptation for ethical reasons, and like, no, it’s not hard for me to resist drinking the bowl of Piss With Glass In It actually

repost this if an editor has ever saved you from yourself
An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.
