Discworld QOTD, from The Color of Magic

“By now the whole of downtown Morpork was alight, and the richer and worthier citizens of Ankh on the far bank were bravely responding to the situation by feverishly demolishing the bridges.”

Yeah this is legit much worse than the deplorables thing (which was also bad) and the only reason they’re not talking about it is that it’s too gross, which is really just yet another strategic deployment of the “decorum” defense that helps him and hurts everyone else still playing by the dead rules
as far as just messaging goes that video is probably the most embarrassing thing any president has done on the world stage in my life

and the fact that the sunday shows wont even describe it? total abdication of their responsibility

The NYTimes was not able to rule out the possibility that Donald Trump was actually filmed wearing a crown and flying a jet that doused Americans with diarrhea.
"Brown liquid" ftw. I thought they'd at least acknowledge the consistency. I also love the "appeared to be AI." I think it's pretty safe to conclude he didn't have the whizzes at Industrial Light and Magic whip that up for him.

I think the leak of the incredibly racist young republican group chat only furthers the argument that millennials were the only generation able to use the computer without going insane, mostly because the computer was once a place separate from the real world. but now the real world is also computer

that a bunch of billionaires have been irreversibly brainwormed by getting addicted to a glorified chat room adds credence to my theory that spending too much time on IRC as a child acts as a powerful inoculant to the worst impulses of an escalatory group dynamic

So much this.

This photo is what The Atlantic chose to illustrate resistance cringe, and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of it.

the fact that even someone considered one of the biggest luminaries of gaming goes "yeah so movies are inherently worth preserving, unlike games" is depressing to a point that's hard to convey in words
Miyamoto explained why Nintendo has made a serious push into making movies:

“Games eventually stop running when newer versions come out, but films remain forever.”

I love the fact that we got to see two of the best Frankenstein and Dracula movies ever made within a year of each other. Golden age of classic horror remakes/reimaginings. Robert Eggers and @realgdt.bsky.social are geniuses.

people have to harden their hearts and understand who the true enemy is: anyone who is part of the fascist state operations, which includes all cops and ICE agents. yes, even the ones crying crocodile tears today after years of moving us to this point
Sorry to report I hate this kind of shit and I think this kind of naivety is dangerous and should be loudly pushed back against

the grievances of the Right are 'legitimate' and exist because the Left 'goes too far.' The grievances of the Left(s) are illegitimate because they are disfavored groups who should be grateful to get to live in this country.
I am remembering how the Tea Party protests in the Obama administration (2009-2010) were covered and thinking about how that coverage compares to the No Kings protests. #contentiousky

In case you missed it: “For 44 years we’ve been dedicated to making Swings-N-Things a special place for families right here in Northeast Ohio,” Tim Sorge said in a statement. “We have loved every minute, but it is time for us to retire and let the next generation continue the tradition."
Beloved Northeast Ohio family attraction up for sale after four decades
After 44 years of creating family memories, the owners of Swings-N-Things Fun Park are retiring and putting the Olmsted Township attraction up for sale.

Spectacular robbery of the French crown jewels at the Louvre today: three masked men climbed a ladder, broke a window, lifted nine priceless pieces from the Apollo gallery, got away on motorbikes. No one hurt.
Reportedly the most famous piece in the room, the 140 carat Regent diamond, was not taken.

My family is from a rural Southern county that consistently goes 70% GOP and there are hundreds of people on the interstate overpass bridge through town telling MAGA to get bent

A lot of centrist commentators who genuinely got worked up about the unforgivably insulting nature of "cling to guns and religion" or "basket of deplorables" are weirdly silent about Trump portraying himself as literally shitting on American cities
