Tēnā koutou katoa,
Now that Bluesky has video, thought I'd do quick introduction in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) for fellow Deaf folk.

My name is Jasmin, I'm Deaf, live here in Aotearoa NZ.

I grew up mainstreamed, oral, NZSL is my second language.

It’s GOOD ACTUALLY for future doctors to know that their future roles allow them to engage in industrial actions. For them to know that their future working conditions can be better due to collective efforts. To see that their senior colleagues give a fuck abt working condition

The memo to the medical students ahead of the 23-24 October senior doctor strikes really leans into reassuring them that they aren’t obligated to fill the senior doctors roles, and has zero mention of idk maybe SOLIDARITY?

It is GOOD ACTUALLY for medical students to see senior doctors striking.

Western Alaska was hit hard by the recent storms. Houses floated away in Kipnuk, houses flipped over, people lost everything from the flooding that came with the storms. Please donate if you can. This group has a long history of supporting AK communities.

Title: “We Keep Telling: a reading series for Gaza.” Text: “Online on Zoom. 2 November, 7pm GMT, tinyurl.com/wekeeptelling.” In the background is a painting of a dancing Palestinian woman in a white, short-sleeved thobe with red tatreez and a keffiyeh tied around her waist. Her long black hair is swirling around her and covering her face. A dove stands on one of her outstretched hands, and another dove dances around her other hand. In the lower left, the painting is signed “Marah.”

If you are fuming about the derailment of climate ambition in AoNZ, how about helping fund an investigation into where this came from 👇

The crowdfund for a podcast investigating how the idea of quitting the Paris climate accords went from fringe to mainstream is getting closer and closer to the goal. If 25 more people pledge $5 we'll be three quarters of the way there

This is a bird thread, I want to give a special mention to our feathered friend, the kestrel, who carries an important meaning for Palestine.

The Gaza Giving Circle is also a great initiative to amplify and contribute to. Six families with urgent needs being helped.

Our kestrel represents resistance (the support front of mutual aid) & the martyrs (whom we seek to honor always)—of all of Palestine. We fight not just for these six families, but Palestinian life.

No advice on the internet is guaranteed tailor-made for you.

You are making huge assumptions about a person just sharing something that worked for them. Why?

If it doesn't apply to you then you disregard, mute or block and move on.

If it pops up when you hover your mouse cursor over it, that's not alt text. That's title text or a popover or hover text. (Depends on the technique used.)

None of those things are alt text and some of them aren't even available to screen reader users.
ebthen.bsky.social
Part of the idea that alt text needs to be entertaining/funny comes from people confusing alt text with title text which is a completely different thing but is sometimes called alt text by people who are misusing the term.
