Waffle fries in general are nice, they can be found elsewhere and I refuse to let the bigots take a delicious otherwise uncontroversial food item away from me.

I especially like the waffle cut sweet potato fries I can sometimes find at the grocery store.

It might be an apples to oranges comparison.
Disney is huge and has steadily been making mis-steps that have chipped away at people's trust. Many smaller grievances are personal and this pushed many people over the edge.
JKR being a gross TERF isn't personal for many, and human empathy is shitty.
