Once when canvassing I asked a voter his #1 concern and it was "yard sales are not enforcing sales tax"

There are only about 350 mature leopards left in West Africa.

Once widespread across the area, the leopard population there has declined by 50% over the past two decades, leading to their moving to a higher threat category of endangered on the IUCN Red List.

This remains the funniest way to hear about an internet outage, though.

I'm just pleased to know that "fruit crisp" is in fact the generally accepted term for the thing my family calls fruit crisp. (Also, it's delicious with all kinds of fruit.)

Wikipedia Volunteers Avert Tragedy by Taking Down Gunman at Conference

By Andy Newman

At Civic Hall in Union Square, a man with a gun walked onto the stage at a Wikipedia conference.

Richard Knipel, CUNY's Wikimedian-in-Residence, jumped the gunman and, with others' help, saved the day. Gift link

Ophelia is feeling good and full of playtime! I have been well chomped.

Amazing what a belly full of food instead of rubbish can achieve.

this is by far the most plausible explanation so far, btw.

Ok, I figured out what happened. Will make this a thread but TL;DR is some one on the gunline put the wrong time on a time fuze which made the shell function early.

in training missions where we engaged targets close to civilian areas, we would "creep" rounds closer bit by bit, rather than risk overcorrecting and hitting something else.

we'd rather put our own lives at risk, than drop a round on someone we didn't mean to.

I cannot think of any plausible, rational reason to be firing artillery rounds over the heads of anyone in peacetime. it truly beggars belief.

There's something bleakly funny about the fact this weekend's right-wing influence op is still only about 1/100th the size of the regularly recurring romance scammers, pig butchers, fake Keanus Reeve and Elons Musk, crypto/forex trading scams, lottery winner scams, and fake charity scams

Telling moment: I was walking back from the rally, but a couple miles from it, carrying nothing but my gigantic American flag. An eight year old on his bike sees me with it and yells "No Kings!!" with absolute conviction.

My friends, they have lost the flag.

The vast majority of the work that needs doing really, truly CAN be talked about publicly, in detail, without fear. Because it’s completely legal, and also extremely sympathetic.

They are not going to arrest me for charity knitting, that would be deeply absurd.

Yeah, those guys aren’t doing shit.

I don’t care if the feds know I’m involved in a mutual-aid group or that I help pick people’s fruit trees that would otherwise sit out going rotten in the fall so the apples can go to the food bank. And offer help with pruning in the spring.
I always wonder how they can magically tell that none of these protesters are putting in work between protests.

But of course if anyone ask what THEY’RE doing, they call ‘em a fed and act like they’re doing Top Sekrit Antifa Super Soldier business that they just can’t tell you about.
