Threatening to vote third party again, in the Year of Our Lord 2025, is a signal that you've already given up.

You're basically stating that you looked into Nietzsche's abyss and blinked.

Miss me with that bullshit.

There is this idea that the Nazis when forming their ideology had 21st Century level access to information one hundred years ago.

While the is some inspiration from Manifest Destiny in the Lebensraum idea, it is a fun house pastiche! Most leading Nazis had never left Europe or even Germany, and spoke little to no English! They knew the West through Karl May pulp novels!

Trump is upfront in saying he will use the shutdown to punish Democrats, and here are the receipts. About $27.2 billion cut from Dem districts compared to about $0.7 billion in GOP districts.
We all complain about the media, but need this type of in-depth journalism.

The Trump administration has frozen or canceled nearly $28 billion primarily located in Democratic-led districts, according to an analysis by The New York Times.

Weak parties are a large part of how we've ended up where we are. If we had a parliamentary system the candidates would be 100% controlled by the party. I'm cool with primaries and for the party to exert some influence.

Why should we expect Senators to be neutral as to whom their future colleagues will be?

Look, Platner will have a shot to win the primary if he can make the case to the voters. If he can't beat Mills in a mildly tilted contest, how in fuck could he be expected to unseat Collins?

Not from Maine, but I understand how critical it is for the Dems to flip this seat. I'd rather not seat a 77yo Senator, but she does have the advantages of being a known quantity with a resume of electoral success. Maybe Platner would be better, but the primary will sort that out.

To all the people who are complaining about Mills: I hear you, but the great news for you is that there will be a primary! If you're right about Platner being the people's choice, he'll win that primary and move on the general.

This isn't me stumping for Mills, BTW.

It's really simple

Voters want an opposition party that will fight for them, and democracy, like there's no tomorrow

Dem elites want a members-only social club where polite, dues-paying members who they like to see at cocktail parties get rewarded with plum roles www.politico.com/news/2025/10...
Chuck Schumer gets his preferred candidate, Janet Mills, in crowded Maine Senate race
Schumer had been aggressively recruiting Mills to challenge Republican Susan Collins.

I remain not a doomer. But the best hope we have, at this point, is the calendar. We have to hope the opinion doesn't come down at a time when they can re-draw the maps for 2026. This, of course, doesn't save us from a potential Wisconsinized scenario where we can't win the house from 2028 on.

i really do think this can spin out of control in ways we cannot really predict. i don't think that's necessarily like a hard American Fail State type stuff, but just a lot of very unpleasant eventualities

Ok, here’s the bottom line, IMO: this is the same fight as the shutdown writ large. “We need your votes and we’re going to put a house bill in front of you and not allow you any input and blame you if you don’t vote for it.” Unacceptable. If you can call your senator, worth asking them to vote no.

So Thune is trying to jam up Democrats tomorrow by holding a vote on a full Defense appropriations bill. Tentatively expect it to fall on its face hard, especially given their refusal to consider Dems’ proposal to advance a bill to pay troops, as well as Trump doing it illegally anyway. And also…

One piece of advice when looking at races, in particular in the VA assembly:

Follow the spending.

One party is spending, even on reach seats. One party is spending to try & save seats.

I’ll let you guess which is which.

Most reports are still out and will be filed by midnight

But Dems starting to spend in House of Delegates

Big numbers even in HD-69 and HD-86 which are considered more of reach seats

White people need to talk to other white people. It is entirely up to the whites to move the needle on their end.

Let me be clear: racism and antisemitism are rampant on *both* sides of the aisle.
