Hakeem Jeffries posted pictures of two Rep. Members posing with “Young Republicans” who were part of a racist text thread (as reported by Politico).

In response, Mike Davis (well-connected in Trump World & on the Hill) called Jeffries a “house slave” for George Soros - proving Jeffries’ point.

No one has done more to create soup kitchens and food pantries in the United States than Republicans and their upside-down economic policies and their practice of making it more advantageous for the wealthy, powerful and well-connected to donate to charity rather than pay their fair share of taxes.

I remember seeing a reproduction of this in my parents' Big Fat Unabridged Dictionary, and just marvelling at it for hours.

I am begging people outside the book industry to understand that what we’re experiencing is not merely a surge in book banning but a coordinated effort to end libraries and librarianship in America. 4/4

Holy shit. This is Angelo Elia, a legislative correspondent for Congressman Dave Taylor.

According to @rooster.info, during a Zoom meeting today, he had an American nazi flag displayed in the background.

You don't have to be alone ❤️‍🩹
Someone out there loves the same silly TV show, or the same book you keep reading again and again.
You find your fandoms or hobbies, and suddenly your world is full of wonderful people, making awesome things! ✨

I mean, yeah. But I'm also stuck on "saving Christianity" by "eliminating DEI."
Honey, the FOUNDATION of Christianity is DEI. It's the entire POINT.
For the love of literacy, read the Gospels, read Paul, what do they teach them in Sunday School these days...

There's a valid issue that a lot of contemporary SFF is in conversation with the older fiction. But. A lot more of it is Just Good Stories with iykyk nods to the classics as an added bonus.
And a fair amount is "The old stuff isn't saying anything I want to talk abt, let's start a NEW conversation."

It's interesting to me that when I and other authors suggest starting people new to SF/F on contemporary titles as an easier step-in to the genre, there are people who seem to think this means we think no one should read anything in SF/F that's more than 20 years old, EVER. This is, uh, very silly.

It also feels like an IMPORTANT one. This is a key time to push back and make a statement that normal people DO NOT SUPPORT the racism, bigotry, violence, and lawlessness of this authoritarian administration. A huge, peaceful turnout on 10/18 will send a huge message.

Well. Things are pretty bad for the current regime. Look who they've pissed off NOW. (Watch to the end, it's not just footage from Portland. Surprise musical guest!)

Genres aren't real. They are mental projections we impose on stories to simplify the way talk about and sell them but stories come unshaped from deep within us and writers shouldn't feel constrained by or even respect genres at all. The story comes first.

Emphasizing this message. Going out to the last NoKings did more for my sense of being part of a greater whole (that hates whats happening to this country) than any amount of time online.

This pitiful monarchist loser knows Americans hate kings, and that is good.

Find a #NoKings protest near you and GO on 10/18, friends. It'll be inspiring and fun and it will help.

(And no, you don't have to RSVP if you don't want to - just show up!)

I don't want to stop people speculating about their afterlife destinations (or those of others). You do you.
But I would gently point out that everyone of genuine faith that I've met or read doesn't think about that at all. What matters to them is what kind of world we're making right here and now.

When I was a kid on a family vacation, on the drive home my mother would always say, "First one to see the Arch gets a kiss."
She's been gone for 20+ years, but every time I see a photo like this I remember her.
Thanks for putting all these kisses from Mom in my feed!
