FYI :“Destruction of federal property is a federal crime. 18 U.S. Code § 1361 defines the crime as willfully injuring or committing any depredation against U.S. government property. If the damage exceeds $1k it is a felony with a fine, up to ten years in prison or both.”

Awaiting law enforcement.

This is gone now. The East Wing lobby two years ago.
This is what it used to look like inside the lobby area.

My feelings about my military service are complicated and ever evolving, but one thing that I’m certain of is that my experience of war, of doing violence and having violence done to me, all for no reason whatsoever in the end, has left me with an almost crippling empathy for my fellow human beings.
Bernie's implication that a veteran is just expected and allowed to be awash with toxic masculinity had me thinking today about the time I read @lorencrowe.bsky.social (one of the gayer men [laudatory] I'm aware of)'s jaw-dropping Silver Star citation.

Soooo...he lied.

The White House is demolishing the entirety of the East Wing to make way for President Trump’s $200 million ballroom, a construction project that is far more extensive than he initially let on, a senior administration official said on Wednesday.

There are laws about how to interdict suspected criminals on the high seas.

There are laws about how to renovate federal buildings.

There are laws about how not to monetize the presidency.

There are laws. We should enforce them. And not normalize the flagrant violation of them in the newspapers.

Chris Murphy: "There's a lot of history that has taken place in the East Wing & it was just destroyed without any conversation in the public, without any consent of Congress. It's absolutely illegal. That visual is powerful b/c you're watching destruction of the rule of law as those walls come down"

Q: We've heard things like Dems want money for civic engagement in Zimbabwe, millions for LGBTQ grants in Balkans. You say this is about healthcare but how do these pet projects fit in?

If Trump’s DOJ loyalists help him take $230M they can be held accountable:

State bars
DOJ IG
Office of Prof. Responsibility
Litigation
& more!

These aren’t minor ethics lapses. They are a coordinated abuse of power

Graduate seminar did a deep dive on Thomas Paine’s Common Sense yesterday. At the line, “in America the law is king,” they (14 students from 6 countries) burst out laughing. I've been doing this for 35 years and this is the first time that was a laugh line.

Right now, our Constitution and our democracy are under threat.

We’re proud to be in community with so many who are demanding accountability from those in power on behalf of the American people.

We all must come together to oppose authoritarian power grabs.

It's also hard to convey just how much ICE is *everywhere*. The city, the suburbs, in and out in the blink of an eye. A crew doing smash and grab jobs across a massive expanse of distance. Part of the reason whistle distro is so important is because you will never know where/when you will need it.
It’s hard to convey just how much Chicagoans are mobilizing against ICE. Don’t want to downplay the harm, or make it seem like a fair fight. But in neighborhoods across this city, ICE is getting chased by people blowing whistles and shouting. People are running TOWARD ICE to protect their neighbors.

Good morning. We're waiting in U.S. District Judge April Perry's courtroom for a status hearing in Illinois v. Trump, over deployment of the National Guard.

While it's technically a "telephone conference," reporters will have to listen in Perry's courtroom.
In a newly filed status report, the Trump administration agrees to a 30-day extension of Judge April Perry's stay on National Guard deployment — but they do so to "facilitate the Supreme Court's review."

Perry's order is set to expire Thursday. This would keep it in place while we wait for SCOTUS.

So much derangement to work with, but, uh, "for nearly 250 years" America has relied on oil, coal, and natural gas for their energy needs? That would be news to the Founders. Coal isn't used much until after the Civil War. Substantial use of oil and natural gas only goes back 100 years.

So a few months ago, we detailed how immigration agents were breaking car windows to grab the people inside.

Well, it turns out one agent just did that *with his gun* and mistakenly shot the person inside and a U.S. marshal.
