Liberals when candidates defend trans people: "We can't do this, it's too unpopular."

Liberals when candidates have a nazi ss tattoo: "it's ok, not all candidates are perfect."

Do y'all hear yourselves?!
Without any of these changes, we'd just have, "What if Ring, but white?" Instead, we have two movies with the same overarching plot, but that are saying very different things with that plot.
The sudden bonk-and-toss of Sadako was turned into a slow scene of Samara seemingly aware of her fate before being strangled. We get to see Katie's friend in the psych hospital. Also, a few weird scenes are added in that seem to suggest television itself is the true villain of society.
The romance angle was played up heavily and the student became an assistant so she could be Noah's current girlfriend, because every movie in 00s America HAD TO have a romance plot shoved in. The (messy) messaging about parents' treatment of their neurodivergent kids was clearly important to them.
Noah and Anna aren't explicitly psychic to give a more "believable" world where only Samara has powers, but Aidan still knows things. Emptying the well doesn't really make sense given how shallow it already was and the lack of mud, so they skipped that part entirely and got to finding the bones.
It also gives you a good idea of WHY things were changed and what matters to the adapter. The tape was heavily changed to fit Samara's changed backstory, but also to be more shocking to the viewer. The change to which parent was bad feels like it was just done to fake-out people who saw the original
Since I watched both this week, I think Ring and The Ring are a good example of this. The overall arc of the movie is the same, some scenes are shot-for-shot remakes, some things are removed, some other things are added in, and Samara's backstory is changed completely from Sadako's.

This slow pivot towards a sort of budding global fascism has been wild and deeply unsettling to watch in real time

I think you should force yourself to interact with art that's "bad" every so often. read a cringy fanfic. play a tiny game. watch a subpar movie. see an amateur play. experience art that's not "masterpieces" because "bad" art deserves to exist and can sometimes give you more emotion than "good" art

It's Invisible Disabilities Week 🫶🏽
Not all disabilities are visible and that doesn't make them any less real.
Chronic pain, mental health conditions, neurological disorders, autoimmune diseases & more deserve awareness, respect, and understanding ✨

The federal shutdown is now about to affect millions of people who use SNAP - the food stamp program - and those same people cannot afford their energy bills. To get every dollar in people's pockets to go to food, not utility corporations, we need an emergency ban on shutoffs.
If you're looking for an action to take tomorrow that can help protect millions of people regardless of their immigration status, call your governor to demand a ban on utility shutoffs this winter. Every state has slightly different policy– we got you covered.
Here's your guide to fighting utility shutoffs this winter. W/o the gov't open, few to no states will have funds for emergency bill payment program LIHEAP. This doc has scripts, state context, contact info for governors & commissions, everything you need. Please call! docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Reminder trans women didn't start the "white trans women say everyone had a fascist phase" trope. A guy who actually had one and is incredibly transmisogynistic started it as a smear to, falsely, depict us as a uniquely reactionary demographic.

Don't buy into it, don't repeat it.

ICE is stockpiling arms, including chemical weapons, guided missile warheads and explosive components. The spending dwarfs anything we've ever seen in the agency - a 700% increase.

The President is building an army to attack his own country.

I'm tired. We're all tired. This isn't hard to understand. You can't inflate prices of basic necessities like food and housing to ridiculous highs while keeping wages at poverty levels, then act surprised when luxury goods/services and large purchases become unattainable or payments unaffordable.

when people say "leave your phone at home" it's not just for location data
"ICE has also purchased spyware in recent weeks that enables it to remotely hack into smartphones and extract data, even if the phones are locked or communication is over encrypted apps."
ICE amps up its surveillance powers, targeting immigrants and antifa
Iris scanners, facial recognition apps, phone-hacking software and cellphone location data are among the agency’s recent technological purchases.

Not sure "if Trump could have silenced dissent by shutting down rallies, trampling on your freedoms, he would have" is quite the argument that the speaker thinks it is.
Mike Johnson: "The irony was that they called it the No Kings Rally, but if President Trump was a king, the government would be open. If President Trump was a king, he would've closed the nationals parks and the National Mall so they couldn't of had the rally out here."
But when's the update where bigots aren't favored over marginalized groups?

You can’t compromise on rights and especially on humanity. If one group says “This group can be sacrificed to save the rest of us,” it’s not a purity test to say “absolutely not.”
"purity tests" "circular firing squad" "the left eat their own" are such bullshit phrases.

people disagree on politics! that's how it works.

deal with it instead of whining about marginalized people correctly pointing out that certain "compromises" only strengthens fascism

Probably makes me a shitty person to say this, but having spent the worst of the pandemic working double shifts at frontline hospitals, I couldn’t give a shit about trauma these people suffered from suburban boredom.

Grow the fuck up.
there’s a thread on reddit right now called “was COVID really that bad?” and it is interesting to read people’s accounts five years out

there seems to be a collective trauma response where people (outside of healthcare workers) don’t remember how many people died

someone called it anticlimactic
