I dunno, I think a president who is told by the supreme court and congress he can illegally withhold mandated funding, dissolve federal agencies created by congress, appropriate funds by fiat for his pet projects, and put $230mln from the Treasury into his pocket will corrupt future elections.

Buckley was Bozell Jr.'s debate partner at Yale and their kids got married. Something to keep in mind when someone tries to bullshit you about genteel old conservatives.
He is also William F. Buckley’s nephew and has a gross beard.

"In 2018, Arizona Public Service disconnected 72-year-old Phoenix-area resident Stephanie Pullman’s electricity when she owed $51. [...She] died of “environmental heat exposure,” according to a medical examiner’s report..."

$51 DOLLARS. We need universal, free electricity service NOW.
As electric bills rise, more states ban disconnections in dangerous weather
A growing number of states are passing laws that prevent utility companies from disconnecting customers during extreme heat.

The arithmetic on leveraged ETFs is simple and unfavourable to the investor. Compound leveraged daily gains are very different from gains on the leveraged asset.

Nothing to worry about, just dead bodies washing ashore in a region where the US is carrying out extrajudicial killings of boats at sea
Unidentified bodies with missing limbs washed ashore on Trinidad’s coast after the U.S. carried out its first strike on a boat in the Caribbean. In Trinidad, some are questioning whether the prime minister’s hesitance to cross the Trump administration is keeping residents from getting answers.
A Mystery in Trinidad as Bodies Wash Ashore After U.S. Strikes
The U.S. campaign targeting what it says is drug trafficking from Venezuela has exposed Trinidad to the fallout: unidentified bodies with burn marks and missing limbs showing up in its territory.

will there be any followup to this fascinating story by the president of the united states that a friend of his sent him a check for $130 million dollars and the president is going to give the money to the military because i for one am fascinated about the details tbh
Trump: "By the way, a friend of mine called us the other day and he said 'I'd like to contribute any shortfall you have because of the Democrat shutdown. I'd like to contribute any shortfall you have with the military.' Today, he sent us a check for $130 million. It's gonna go the military."

Foreign spies are going to be eating well
The new Pentagon press corps appears to be a who's who of pro-Trump propagandists. And a security nightmare. At least one of these—Tim Pool's Timcast—was tied to a network of influencers that received money as part of a Russian influence operation. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

Developing: At least five people, including vendors and a man doing laundry, were taken during a Border Patrol raid led by Gregory Bovino in Little Village.

Little Village, known as the ‘Mexico of the Midwest,’ is the second-highest grossing shopping district in Chicago.

Border Patrol has reportedly detained several people in Little Village this morning.

Video from Facebook shows Border Patrol chief Greg Bovino and his agents walking the streets as warning whistles blow in the background.
Back in '05 I used to joke that Patraeus lost me when he cut in line in front of me for Physical Therapy in Iraq. I had no idea how terrible he would end up being. Or that after everything he did he'd just be allowed to walk around and talk to people.

As a practical matter the people/orgs that are willing to host the guy who traded SCI (and exquisite SCI at that) for sex aren't gonna be willing to put officers into Article 32 hearings for following blatantly illegal orders for the use of force

At some point we're gonna have to rip the bandaid
American national security - even (especially?) when Ds have power - will maintain a critical vulnerability as long as criminals like David Petraeus are invited to polite panel discussions about the intelligence community.

Elite impunity is a cancer and the people on this panel are all responsible.

This kind of self-censorship is a key way our media is failing us. Kudos to Greenblatt for his integrity, and to Politico for publishing this.

Pitching mass deportation and ethnic cleansing as male bonding, all tinged with mythic nostalgia.
Can you imagine that this is an ICE recruitment poster?
It’s like “why sit around on your sofa w/your wife nagging you every two minutes when you can sit in comfort in a van big enough for friends? You’ll get a mask, a gun, & your very own “illegal” so you can feel superior & secure in your ride.”
