Day after day of essentially nothing weather. Not a glimmer of warmth from the sun but it's not actually cold and the sky is so bland a grey it's just absent like a gap in a child's drawing above the greenish grass and it never rains there's no breeze there's no movement nothing. Do I need a jacket.

Related point: almost all the books I read until I got a full-time job at 22 were library books. And you can't damage or deface them or there will be Consequences. And that behaviour sticks with you!

This is true BUT if you grow up skint, a £6 paperback is a significant investment, and you guard that thing with your life. I'm doing OK for money now but I still can't bring myself to damage a book.

One of the most fascinating things about this is that books have virtually zero actual value. Try selling them. Maybe the reverence with which some people treat them is an antidote. A gesture of respect which secretly acknowledges the horrible truth.

Honestly almost nobody criticising the use of the "passive voice" has any idea what it means. "The man died after an interaction with federal agents" is active voice. "The man was murdered by federal agents" is passive voice.
