Daycares in our neighborhood are no longer answering their doors after morning drop-off. Parents have to call the daycare when they arrive and they let them in for pickup. It's insane how we live now.
ICE isn’t going after the worst of the worst. This morning, they took a preschool teacher without a warrant IN FRONT OF CHILDREN in my district.

I have to imagine far-right Catholics are really struggling with the fact that they can now hear this stuff in English directly from the pope.
“How did you receive the foreigner? And did you receive him and welcome him or not?”

Pope Leo XIV challenges us to reflect on the moral cost of policies that target deeply-root immigrants and families.

"'They’re spending more money than I would even tax them,' [Mamdani] said in an interview with MSNBC last week."

This is the message. Make it clear that these billionaires aren't just worried about losing money. They're worried about losing the ability to exchange their money for power.

The Israelis are genuinely not used to their relationship with the Anglosphere, and in particular the United States, being in any way contingent upon their treatment of the Palestinians. They do not know how to process that it will increasingly be the case and in all likelihood will just go crazier.
You can't rebrand until you actually change the reality on the ground. It's bizarre that some people (on a variety of topics) don't seem to recognize this.
Full text of the Erdan post here. They are increasingly realizing that US-Israel relations are due for a change. I think they will struggle with the "rebrand" inasmuch as "younger" and "minority" Americans have protest repression in recent memory.

the thing about the Wide Awakes is not only is it a cool historical reference, but colloquially it's also resonant with, and a natural progression from, being woke

When these people have lost we need to find a way to literally criminalise lying this much.

Mamdani: "My message to ICE agents & to everyone across this city is that everyone will be held to the same standard of the law. If you violate it, you must be held accountable. There is sadly a sense growing that certain people are allowed to violate that law, whether they be POTUS or ICE agents."

if you start from the view that there's a policy compromise you can make that will calm people down, you can end up supporting some very authoritarian stuff very quickly

uk labour was elected 18 months ago on a pledge to make trans peoples lives easier, now they're implementing a bathroom ban

Does RW CBS News still look like a good bet? Do audiences crave a RW WaPo? Is No DEI! really save your lagging sales?

It's incredible to me how much last night showed how much most media and business leaders completely miscalculated by assuming a permanent shift.

He's saying they're the most productive administration of all time while we're currently in the longest shutdown in the history of the country just 10 months into the term
Johnson: When we go into the midterms, we’re very bullish on the outcome. We have an extraordinary record to run on. The first nine months of this Congress and this administration, arguably the most productive of all time.

Do you have reason to believe that the services economy of the united states is structurally similar to the late soviets such that state operated grocers would result in shortages or are you just an economist making blithe and historically inaccurate comparisons for points online
This time will be different

remember all those 'project 2025 isn't actually real, you fools, you naifs' media pieces.
Amazing how much 2025 was a hyper correction for the fact that in 2024 voters clearly didn't know what they were voting for because the media didn't report on Trump's actual policies/voters refused to believe what they were voting for.
Between 2020 and 2024, no New Jersey county moved further right than Passaic County (11pts). At 43% it's also the most the most-Latino county in the state, and is among the least-white overall.

Last night, it moved 18pts to the left, surpassed only by Hudson County (the second-most Latino county)

i think the relentlessness has made the whole bit of transphobia really tiring for the average person. they see systems and structures failing them at every turn and then look to the news to see some ghoul wailing about "biological females" and it's like

hey man stop being weird i have bills
I don't know if it's just me, but I've gotten the sense recently that transphobia a political tool is already played out. Not only is it not a winner, but it really feels like the right overplayed their hand with anti-trans hate and people generally seem sick of it, sick of bulling running on hate.
As many have pointed out, Mamdani didn't stand apart from our trans brothers and sisters. He didn't play the "Gee, gosh, it sure is complicated," milquetoast moderate card. And he crushed.

The way forward is together, not over the bodies of our own.

They thought "mass deportations" meant millions of cartel members getting shipped out, but now they're starting to realize that if Trump is going after random grandmas it's because either (A) there aren't millions of cartel members or (B) Trump is choosing not to deport them (and both are Bad).
Every time Trump wins we get a round of takes that this is because American are all Nazis deep down but all the evidence is that Americans are morons who think “crime” is out of control and we just need to take down all the criminals, but don’t want it done to their neighbors.
I continue to believe that the Trump *campaign* successfully convinced quite a lot of people that mass deportations did not mean mass deportations; that it meant targeted enforcement against “the bad guys.”

The problem for the Trump *administration* is that no one believes that anymore.

I hope somebody had the sense to present tariffs as an unjustifiable violation of Native sovereignty to Gorsuch.
If I had to guess right now (and it is premature!) I'd say the Supreme Court is going to strike down Trump's tariffs.

All three liberals are clearly against the government. Barrett too. Roberts leaning that way. And we haven't even gotten to tax-hater Gorsuch yet.

"but it's actually bad if SCOTUS stops the tariffs because it will make things suck less, thus blunting the blue wave" this might apply if Trump suddenly became a very sensible individual with a great sense of political strategy. if they strike them down he's gonna flip his shit & do bad things
