It's true that submitting your manuscript for publication is a looong process. I submitted one today and the email says *at least* 3 months before reply.

...Doesn't help that I put off submitting it for a month already 😅

Denizen Thirzan’s neck swelled as though he were strangling in his ruff of office. “Use of the Rill is ordained according to the Covenant. Even this Sordaneon cannot overturn the Covenant! It is a holy obligation—it is a vow!”
Sinon nodded at that answer. “A vow that my Hierarch maintains was broken a half century ago at your instigation. Proof that the vow was broken lies, perhaps, in the fact that he was able to stop the Rill.” Sinon cracked another nut between his fingers, fishing out the morsel inside. “It presents an interesting question,” he conceded, “as the Covenant binds men as regards the Rill, but not the Rill as regards to Itself.” His eyebrows drew together thoughtfully as his gaze wandered into open thought. “This is always a conundrum when dealing with the Highborn and their Entities, this matter of boundaries.”
Rhynos bestowed a withering glare upon the ambassador. “Dorilian Sordaneon is not the Rill!”
Sinon raised a gray eyebrow and popped the purple nutmeat into his mouth. He chewed for a few moments. “Whether he is or isn’t… is a moot point, don’t you think? Considering what’s happened? He might as well be. The Rill follows his mind. It goes where he wishes it to go and does not go where he wishes it to pass by. At the moment, because he wishes it thus, the Rill is passing by Dazunor-Rannuli. You, on the other hand, wish to change that. I would think it a sane policy—one that young Handurin and these intelligent Khelds of his seem to follow—to treat my Hierarch as if he is the Rill. That way, you are much more likely to get what you want.”
“Then your Hierarch is mad!”
Sinon shrugged and dropped another shell onto the pile. “Unprovable. And immaterial.”

Thinking about the day

The day my time might be up

My freedom may be taken

And my chance to live might be squandered

What then?

Images of that day go through my head

Never the same kind of day

As anything may come for me

My people die all around me

Or get snatched off the streets

What if I can't leave in time?

Sooner or later it'll come for me

Am I ready?

Is it even possible to be ready?

To be ready to fight

To be ready to lose

To be ready to die

Just because of who I am

Will anyone even protect me?

When they come for me like a criminal

Will there be any point in fighting?

What if I try to escape and don't make it?

Will I be formally executed like Nat Turner

Or Sophie Scholl?

Or will I not even get that luxury?

Will I be hunted and killed like a pest

By racist vigilantes

Who fancy themselves heroes?

When they come for me

Will it be because I'm Black

Because they think I'm a woman?

Because I'm trans?

Because I'm gay?

The possibilities are endless

And as I feel the walls closing in on me

I fear I'm not prepared

It'll come when I least expect it

Or maybe I'll see it coming a mile away

But will it even matter?

When they come for me

What will I do?
