It isn’t the normal chill of sleeping on a pallet on the floor in the undercity, though the fuel for his fire had burned out in the night. That cold soaked into his already aching bones, crept beneath thin blankets and bore the scent of pollution and chemical runoff.

Nice! Also, afaik, Pern did do the linked dragon thing 'first' (at the very least, early and loud), but I wasn't alive then so I can't verify for sure. That was certainly my impression growing up.

The Dragonriders of Pern is a classic, Ann McCaffery. Many books in the series.

Pratchett's satire of the 'Dragon riders of Pern' books slapped me sideways on first reading it shortly after publication (I was a big Pern fan). But it was so *spot on* and hilarious that I forged on through the book. And now, 40 years later, Discworld is the series I return to again and again.

I read a few series. Dragonriders of Pern, Tales of the Otori, some of the Hainish books. Ursula Le Guin was a standout for 2025. I read 6 books by her this year.

Quotes are for sure copyrighted (although for review purposes I think short ones are OK?), but I thought elucidations of really specific ideas were too, like the poses & sequence of Bikram yoga. Or Pern-style dragonriders. But those cases also famously have assiduous copyright holders!
