Passing my train journey with @ronanhession.bsky.social Loving the deceptively simple prose, and the quirky characters. Reminiscent of an Irish Under Milkwood.

An Under Milkwood morning

The area my parents' house is in is FULL of milkwood trees and the flowers stink like rotting trash from November to April. I am SO sick of this awful smell every time I leave the house.

One of my favorite poems. I recited it as an audition piece for Under Milkwood. It was another lifetime ago, but you brought back a flood of good memories! TY🙏🏾

Weirdly, another of my better memories is playing Mrs. Dai Bread Two in Under Milkwood my freshman year. Dylan Thomas, sneaky patron saint of my poetry fueled college years.

Did you try Google lens? It excels at identifications like this, and only takes a second to run.

It's almost 1am, too hot, milkwood tree stench is floating in from the window, I'm super fucking anxious, and my nose is running. How the hell am I going to fall asleep tonight.

Good calls! Milkwood has done an on-toast mix of those things but worth checking it's on before making a specific trip.

Some of the native species planted include Coastal Milkwood, Coastal Silver Oak, Wild Banana, and Wild Plum. More trees will be planted throughout spring and summer in riparian zones, estuaries, and along the coastal dunes, helping to restore vital ecosystems and protect biodiversity.

Thank you

Just looked it up on line and a Community Park has appeared between Lowden Road and Milkwood Road where houses used to be and close to the old bakery that has downsized by the looks of it. My old primary school Jessop is still there!

NZ state school, 1970s:

Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, King Lear, Under Milkwood, The Lady’s Not For Burning, Grapes of Wrath, Of Mice and Men, Man Alone, To Kill A Mockingbird, 1984, something by DH Lawrence (might have been The Rainbow), and short stories by Frank Sargeson.

Loved Grapes of Wrath.
Australia rather than US/UK and not that typical a school

Hamlet, Macbeth, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern, St Joan, The Eye of the Storm (White), The Fortunes of Richard Mahony, The Leopard, A Fortunate Life, Merchant of Venice, My Brother Jack, To Kill a Mockingbird. 1984, maybe?
US and UK friends, I'm curious: What books were part of your required reading for highschool literature class? Which of them do you remember loving, and which did you loathe?

Under the milkwood (dylan thomas) + a season in hell / illuminations (rimabud) (yes I egostically named my own fic series after this 😂) + waterland (swift)

If I really don't feel like anything I usually go for random ee cummings, poetry is most comforting to me (also short)
What’s your comfort book?

Currently mine are probably The Silmarillion and A Discovery of Witches and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
What‘s your „comfort book“?
