Anyone who watches Aliya Rahman's testimony today and isn't consumed by a desire to turture Stephen Miller is completely lacking in empathy.
I know people today who say, "I didn't vote for *this*!" But they *did* vote for it, they just didn't imagine this level of evil. Without acknowledging their own complicity and culpability, they are in effect saying, "I voted for the evil, but not this much evil." They still voted for evil.
This is a nuanced issue. Have those people been enacting incredible harm prior to their change of heart? Have they been actively attacking or dismissing those who did know as doomers or hysterical? Because then the proper reaction is “welcome friend, I think you have some apologies to make.”
Bluesky idea: if people who didn't agree with you change their opinions so that they do agree with you, why not be happy that you are making progress - rather than complaining that they are "only just catching up"?
