IT person here who is starting to LOATHE AI & this entire Internet Experiment

What kind of a world do we have, here, where we don't know what is real???

Verslag van een experiment met Co-Pilot: AI kan nog geen serieus historisch artikel schrijven.

New experiment shows that (a) many people treat AI as human-like entity that can bear responsibility for moral decisions, and (b) people will delegate fairness decisions to AI to offload to the AI portion of moral costs of being unfair. Not good news. 1/ papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....
Strategic Delegation of Moral Decisions to AI

While prepping for my Obsidian interview, I listened to a 2019 interview with Fallout co-creator and Outer Worlds 2 creative director Leonard Boyarsky, who mused then about using AI to help write NPC dialogue.

When I checked if they'd used it for OW2, the answer: “We haven’t been using it AT ALL.”

on a serious note, this wasn't a thought experiment. these are examples of how AI-generated content is being used. how do I know this? because people brag about things unfit for a confessional!!!
that material safety, dependent on forms and slips, is endangered by in-human testimony. what happens when your primary care provider exports your medical history to ChatGPT? what recourse do victims have when law enforcement lets bots handle incident reports?

"AI IN ITS OWN WORDS - continuing my experiment, I asked Sora AI 2 very human questions and let it answer. I found these answers compelling."

Another experiment exploring the horror of malls and parking lots. We have some AI collage elements, some dolls and superheroes, a little something for everyone!

That’s a fun experiment in limitations for a human for a while, but eventually, you exhaust the possibilities for meaning and novelty, and you want more.

Shakespeare invented the words he was using as he went. AI cannot—literally can’t—replicate that kind of creativity.

* RIP forever René Auberjonois. There’s a whole lot of meta there about House being maybe alive or dead while his original actor is, sadly, definitely dead

They’re obviously not reconstructing him with an AI voice (thank god) but wow, that’s a thought experiment for ya

Quick thought experiment:

You have aligned superintelligent AI and can deploy ONE breakthrough technology instantly:

1. Fusion energy (unlimited clean power)
2. Carbon capture (reverse climate change)
3. Synthetic biology (end hunger)
4. Anti-aging (double human lifespan)

Which and why? 🧵

Brief landscape of AI use in newsrooms by NYT

Seems the most misgivings relate to using it as a replacement for journos altogether

E.g. “At Bloomberg, an experiment with A.I. to generate news article summaries has resulted in dozens of corrections”

"This experiment raises the threat that large language models like GTP-4 ADA could be used to 'fabricate data sets specifically designed to quickly produce false scientific evidence'...AI could be used to produce fake data to support whatever conclusion or product you want to promote."
You may think this article is relevant only for those who write about science. Given how many organizations are adopting generative AI tools, I think it's relevant to anyone who reads about anything.

Worth your time. 🧪

Adobe lets users choose which AI model version to use. Developers can experiment without company-wide approvals. Product teams decide exposure timing.

Innovation at the speed of development without forcing disruptive changes on users.

Google & Perplexity bundle $20/mo plans with Indian telecoms, while OpenAI will make its ~$5/mo plan free for a year.

It's both a business model and a social experiment to see if widespread AI access creates economic growth, beyond its usefulness as a cost-cutting tool as seen in corporate America.

I understand the reticence but if you're going to do this at all, Anthropic is basically the only actor behaving in a remotely responsible way.

Nearly every true bad or risky thing about AI that you know about probably came from an Anthropic experiment that they voluntarily released.
It’s not enough to rebuild someone else’s broken government. We need to innovate.

This partnership will speed up our efforts to fight poverty, help renters become homeowners, and make sure Marylanders can quickly get basic services like food assistance and financial support.

That AI shit definitely didn’t help (to the point that I saw NO ONE talking about Poker Face when it returned thanks to her bullshit), but as much as I love Dinklage and the idea of such a weird attempt to keep the show (and Charlie Cale!) alive, maybe this experiment has just run its course.
Is this related to Lyonne's about-face against the AI push at that event recently, or just fallout from when she was for it and lots of people tuned out?

Like, yes, on a cosmological timescale, a thousand monkeys bashing away on a thousand typewriters will eventually rewrite Shakespeare's sonnets, but our current experiment with monkey typography ("AI server farms") is swiftly outstripping our little planet's finite resources.

About one in three teen users of AI chatbots report feeling uncomfortable with something an AI chatbot has included in an output. To the children and teens using them, these technologies are not an experiment, even if companies still treat them like one.

roko’s basilisk is the dumbest thought experiment ever. it’s like imagining in the future an ai will be developed to fuck your wife that is so advanced that in all possible timelines and moments it Will fuck your wife and going “shit… I have to make the wife-fucking ai”. cucked by your own brain

Makings of a cruel experiment indeed.

I decided to do a small experiment lately. I wanted to check the veracity of the AI summary that now appears at the top of a search. What a load of shit. It is a complete rewrite of history, pushes capitalism and the narrative of neoliberalism. Outright bullshit Most of the time.
