#SomethingBeautiful This painting passes the Bechdel test! I really like this Victorian painting of two women and a bookshelf, which I saved from the internet some time ago. I've been having trouble finding information about the artist or somewhere I could buy a print though.

I suppose that you would be annoyed if I asked you which groups Saul of Tarsus, John Chrysostom, Gregory of Nyssa, Savonarola, Torquemada, Martin Luther, and Calvin fell into.

I love the Alex Morrow series and the Garnethill trilogy but they’re grimmer. Her short book on Savonarola, Three Fires, is breathtakingly brilliant and full of insights into today (quietly laid out so you feel like you thought of them) but not exactly an intro to the rest of her work.

Oh, so this person gets fame and fortune for telling you to get rid of things, but when I, little old Savonarola, suggest the same idea...

Vought announced this; this is Savonarola-level evil, turning science into apostasy.

The Medici tseries which has run on Netflix and Prime, has a scene I believe in year 3 which depicts a fire by Savonarola. It was more focused on the art but there might have been books in the scene as well. I seem to remember a scene also where they are collecting books from private homes.

Trump is some passing Savonarola. The Federalist Society pipeline is the Medici.

Saving this land /democracy is an archival project ….

And right now we’re stuck between Savonarola, the Fascists, “good” slave owners

Typical of History actually. I read a lot of History.

Actually the closest match to Trump off the top of my head is Savonarola.....fear mongering and then power grab....

He eventually got burned at the stake though.....

Still only one of many many examples.

These illiberal movements, such as GamerGate, are always about a small group gaining control of a larger group via a narrative of grievance mixed the threat of softness and degeneracy. GamerGate resembles religious crackdowns of the past. Girolamo Savonarola was the first member of GamerGate.
Gamergate WASN'T ABOUT GAMES.

It was about controlling how much women and people of color appear in ANY popular media, and HOW we appear when we do.

1/2 This is reminiscent of reformation radical cleric Savonarola & Nazi's. Book burning was a form of thought control. Parent's, Schools & libraries can't decide for themselves what is best for their adolescent children to read, Corporal De Santos must decide for them.

The Florentine friar, Savonarola, and his followers, the Piagnoni, gather up secular items for a bonfire of the vanities, burning books, art, dresses, mirrors, musical instruments, and cosmetics, #OTD in 1497.

Because BS about Milei as Savonarola warning about the perils of straying from classic 19th C. Liberalism (when Arg had same export mix as today) will not effing stop, here are GDP, manufactures as % exports, Ginis & economic complexity rankings for Arg and Korea. And yes, I saw Parasite.

My favourite portrait of Girolamo Savonarola is this tiny one, in a cadel at the beginning of the tenor part of a setting of "Ecce quam bonum" .... in the Biffoli-Sostegni manuscript dated 1560 from a Clarissan convent just outside Florence #nuntastic #earlymodern.
