When the art of the comic *book* was being perfected at this time (as opposed to the comic strip), artists were learning to lead the reader's eye through the story told on that page with things like motion lines and characters' limbs. Good letterers like Rosen worked with the artists on this!

I've fallen in love with making comics, and I wish to find more comic artists, writers, letterers, etc. If you create big or small comics, let me know, share your work below, and let's talk comic craft.

I’ve been reading a lot of stuff from professional letterers this year to up my game and it’s seems in the oddball out with enjoying dialogue over sound effects.
Maybe it’s b/c I’m fascinated w/ characters, but I love doing the dialogue because I feel like I’m involved in the character acting. 😅

Again: not the way databases work. If a field is required, it’s for ALL entries. Ex: Writer is required, Letterer isn’t. Forcing it to be required is bad as not all comics have letterers or it’s unknown.
Also: COMET is data standards for pub, distro & sales. For credits, comics.org is better.

Grand Comics Database
The GCD is building the most comprehensive comics database. It is fully searchable and includes data on creator credits, story details, or other publication details for comic books worldwide.

171/680: BENEATH THE TREES WHERE NOBODY SEES #5 (2024)
Whenever I’m asked who my favorite modern letterers are, I always make sure to include Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. He always goes the mile beyond mere legibility to create something special and additive to the work. He earns his second billing here.

Well, who would have ever thought Grant Morrison was fucked in the head.
Wonder which artists, letterers, publishers, etc, will want to work with him now he's effectively come out against them?

I used to buy graphic novels online, it closed. Now I go in person every week to my local comic book store to buy the latest Wednesday issues. It surprises me that with big teams of writers, artists, letterers, variant designers, colorists, etc, comics are still $5 a pop. How is the industry solvent

That might help, because that math doesn't math at all. I've worked for almost every major publisher at this point, and it's almost always a flat $20/page, or $25 if I'm extremely lucky.
I know other letterers have cleared higher, but that survey average feels disingenuous.

In this example the reflection sucks. This person literally chose this picture to show of this letterers work... and it is not good at all. They literally went out of their way to just add a ton of mistakes. Did you notice in the reflection the words arent even in the correct order? It adds nothing.

Letterers are somehow one of the most important jobs in comics and most under appreciated bc I have tried lettering my own stuff and it’s HARD.

He is extremely good. I've been paying a lot of attention to letterers of late, as the Todd Kleins and Gaspar Saladinos of the comic world retire and move on.
