Updated the calendar because, somehow, I shoved another book into October at the last minute.

Hey @lentesta.bsky.social, would this break Touring Plans?

I know manga letterers get paid dick, but do NOT go into American comics planning on that $42, because you won't get it. You'll around half that, probably less. Those numbers are wildly incorrect for a majority of American comic letterers.
longtalljodie.com
The average of $42/page still seems REALLY high to me, like more than double the average rate I'm offered by every publisher, but it's decidedly possible I'm underpaid.

That might help, because that math doesn't math at all. I've worked for almost every major publisher at this point, and it's almost always a flat $20/page, or $25 if I'm extremely lucky.

I know other letterers have cleared higher, but that survey average feels disingenuous.

That time Drew Struzan did a cover for Superman #800 (an homage to ACtion Comics #1 that featured himself in the corner!).

Oh, I just remembered the relatively obscure VERNE'S WORLD. Was a Europe-only release that picked up fans over here when a digital recreation was a made. It's a mish-mash of Jules Verne stuff into a single table.

I dunno if you need the CRKD if you already like the PDP fine. But it does have the perk of being actively supported by a company that's trying to revive these games and that is working consistently with the community.

(Stern Indy is an extremely simple and easy table, especially in its most recent VPX iteration. Really easy to control the ball and almost everywhere you shoot the ball is safe. Though in real life, the Ark shot is scarier than in the digital realm.)

Jadzia already mentioned it! Phantom of the Opera is the big one. Absolutely designed to cash-in on the then-new and popular musical, but based entirely on the book.

AW MAN, I was THIS CLOSE to the Final Adventure.

The Riffmaster is fine. I used it for a year, it's solid and definitely the best Rock Band style guitar ever made. But the CRKD Les Paul blows it out of the water in every regard.

They're almost too light, though. They feel sort of insubstantial. Definitely not replacing my standard CRKDtar neck yet, but it's certainly pretty cool.
longtalljodie.com
I finally got the CRKD guitar solo neck today and it feels WILD. Like, it's a Rock Band neck, they made a Rock Band neck. It has the keys recessed into the neck, it was the solo keys, and they all feel lighter. The wild part, though, is that they're LOUDER than the Guitar Hero frets.

National Dessert Day!

Thought I'd celebrate by doing a doodle of me and @andyharvest.bsky.social's two kids, Dae and Emily from the fantasy baking book CRUMBLE.

Andrea was the one who brought my script to life with her art, but I thought it would be fun to draw the kids once myself.
An illustration of a light airy kitchen. In the foreground we see two kids, Dae on the left, and Emily on the right. The two work at a separate work table with bowls and ingredients. Emily is perched on a stool, pouring flour into the bowl. She's the mastermind of this operation.

Dae leans into the table, one hand against their face, the other holding the spoon. They know if they wait long enough they'll get all the spoils of Emily's baking.

Look at the wraparound artwork Struzan did for the Indiana Jones books in the early 90s, complete with hand-drawn titles and author blocks!

16 year old me would stand in a mall B. Dalton and could feel the thunder & hear the music with one of these books in my fat little white suburban hands.
