There are entire vast edifices online built to skim attention and brand recognition away from the actual work of reporting and writing, and it drives me abosolutely fucking nuts
But the people who read articles aloud on YT and TikTok get brand deals and loving praise from their commenters on their “journalism” the people who do the underlying reporting work for companies that increasingly don’t exist and get laid off and are attacked as corrupt/fake news or whatever

I mean, of course I'm worried about comics. DC has been sublime for the past couple years, with diverse and exciting new books trying out new things with new creators. I hope they retain some of the same autonomy when all this over. The best case scenario is that Netflix simply lets it ride.

The comings and goings of corporate behemoths are beyond my reckoning. They are as gods. Will Netflix/WB effect my life or even just my career? I can't say. It's undoubtedly bad for media and culture in general, but I'm also powerless to stop it, so WHATEVER.

Just to de-mystify a common question: I, the letterer, could add SFX, but I try not add anything outside of the script and revisions notes. Because 1) I'm not the writer, and 2) no point in extra work that could just get removed if the creative team doesn't want it.

A fun thing about writing comics is when you're trying to figure out the SFX for a very specific thing and so you just sit at your desk making sounds for a few minutes

Today is the day! BENITO CERENO'S STARTLING TALES OF SANTA CLAUS is out today. Unfortunately, you can't get a copy at my local store because I bought as many covers as I could. And made two people by the last two. ORDER IT! HUNT IT DOWN! IT IS AMAZING!!!

Lauren's wonderful, FOR YOUR INFORMATION. Aside from working on a few books together, she graciously gave me her time and expertise while massaging a pitch that had no guarantee of actually going anywhere. That pitch wasn't picked up, but it's gonna be a better comic someday because she was there.
Yesterday was my last day with Mad Cave Studios. I'm so grateful for the opportunities the last 3.5 years have brought me and the books these amazing creators produced during that time. I would really love to keep in touch and am open to new editorial roles. 💖
