I think the important distinction is that most proshippers (darkshippers specifically) don't actually desire/condone the things they draw/write about in fiction in real life. That non-con smut writer on ao3 most likely doesn't actually condone sexual assault in real life. Meanwhile, the writer of that transphobic episode probably holds those same values irl. Those beliefs should be what dictates a person's morality. There's also the fact that fandom isn't nearly as mainstream as some people seem to think it is, and even less people create darkfic openly. That darkfic has nowhere NEAR the level of influence that people give it credit for."

Depending on what your paras are, it can be difficult to find total connection, where someone's willing to talk to you about fantasies or struggles or wtvr because it makes them uncomfortable, even in darkfic spaces.

Finding the right ppl is just a lot of trial and error in my experience, sadly

You can try making friends with darkfic artists/writers and slowly start opening up about para stuff to gauge how they might react. I've found a lot of accepting ppl that way.

There's also darkfic discord servers but I'm personally usually wary of public servers, but thats just a me thing

Jarakrisafis prompted for darkfic and a twist on the Impression bond, so I went full Lovecraft crossover and made the dragons eldritch abominations. Not one for the Pern purists...but I'm sorely tempted to write a lot more in this alternate universe.

I was there & remember all this. M/m was at the "heart" of AO3 as much as any of the other "taboo" (darkfic, underage, etc) content that was also frequently targeted at the time. My original criticism is about how M/M fic was being cited as the ONLY mission of early AO3, when that's not the case.
