My no-fun-at-parties take is that "christmas is a secular holiday" is an uncomfortable way of assuring me that christianity is the status quo and everything outside of that is an aberration. Sorry! It's still a christian holiday!! Just because you're an atheist doesn't make it secular!

i think having SOME context for the conventions of japanese pop culture when that is the majority of what you're consuming is useful, instead of separating japanese writing into its own category of "wacky japan" or inherently problematic

i think character age discourse is just not a productive use of time, and people should each accept that other people view age/appearance as concepts in fiction differently (literal, allegorical, relative to different literary devices) and mute/block accordingly

i think the way fandom uses terms like "media literacy" is largely off base, bc fandom uses basically one framework through which to read works that serves fandom activities like online posting (and posturing) and writing fanfic, but tends to leave out other frameworks for reading

i will say that i think my opinions on current xiv stuff are going to diverge so far from popular consensus (in that i feel extremely positively about this patch set, and a lot of stuff i've seen ppl read literally... i don't) that i'm staying firm in basically not talking about it publicly
