Beautiful autumn colours in Mountsfield Park for Catford #parkrun. A little bit slower than last week as Parisian miles caught up with me. Moving Benjamin’s broken branches before, lots of silliness with a two year old afterwards. #RunningPunks #JogDivision #GreenRunners

A short 🧵
Had the misfortune to read Nextdoor today after a spate of 4 unconnected stabbings in Catford, South East London (after ages of realitive quiet).
The commenters displayed ignorance, racism and outrage in equal measure, regurgitating right wing tropes and misplaced nostalgia.

The recent stabbings in Catford have been deeply shocking. My full statement here: www.janetdaby.org/news/2025/10...

(I was recalling the other day when Jude Bellingham first played for England, everyone in south London shouted “Catford bus garage” every time the commentators said his name.)

Just been reading about the proposed SL15 - you can go to Clapham from Eltham on the train changing at Denmark Hill FFS. Catford to Brixton via Herne Hill would be far more useful (and get less hold-ups).

I seemed to wheeze all the way round Catford #parkrun this morning, but still managed my quickest time since March; 1st in both age group and ‘the most autumnal runner’ category. Artistic cone placement before & messy cake eating with a 2 year old afterwards. #JogDivision #RunningPunks #GreenRunners

I find the green freekeh in the Turkish grocery shop opposite Catford Bus Garage; one of my very favourite local shops. A ratio of 1 part freekeh to 2.5 parts water and a cooking time of at least 20 minutes works for me.

After listening to a recorded talk by James Catford this morning I'm mulling over what spiritual formation practices I should engage in throughout this week to prepare myself for Saturday.
What prayer, meditation, fasting, and/or service will shape how I act or react in the near future?

#OnThisDay 61 years ago Belmont closed (in Middlesex, as opposed to the still-open one near Sutton). For the final 12 years after Stanmore Village closed, Belmont was a one-stop shuttle from Harrow & Wealdstone. Image of final day: Nick Catford buff.ly/izRXRo1

I always enjoy pacing week at Catford #parkrun; I had the 29 minute bib on and helped my friend Isabel to a PB. Picking up Amy’s litter (course check) before.

One man opened a series of cinemas in abandoned London buildings (from Catford to Ealing, from Sidcup to Sutton) as part of a plan to revive the capital’s high streets. Politicians love the idea and provided millions to help. So why do they keep going bust? www.londoncentric.media/p/preston-be...
The man who can't stop opening disastrous London cinemas
Preston Benson received millions of pounds in public funds to help revive London's high streets with a chain of cinemas stretching from Ealing to Catford, and Sidcup to Sutton. What keeps going wrong?

I really liked Catford Mews and was a member there for years and regular visitor. If that place was run by anyone decent who was really pushing for it to be a commercial success it could of got there. But just felt was never any real effort put in to make any money.

Unfortunately, in addition to Catford Mews, every single other cinema project in Lewisham has failed too! The Curzon at Goldsmiths, the aborted Curzon in Ladywell, and now the vacant cinema in central Lewisham after Empire went bust. Quite a streak of bad luck in a borough of 300,000 people.
