Still more severe outcomes associated with COVID-19 than Influenza but they are increasing for Influenza, in the latest report (week of Oct 19 to 25) for Manitoba. Vaccination rates for 65+ are up to 26.8% for COVID-19 and 32.4% for Influenza.

I want to know more how the control group was treated because even if there are traits associated with autism or dyspraxia, etc in the non-covid parents and kids we already know long-covid has neurological effects and could have expected-exclusion-confirmation bias that disregards observable traits.

Yes, and the depth of expertise the Clinic Nineteen staff have in long COVID (and associated conditions like POTS and ME/CFS) means they’re absolutely helping patients. They’re providing individualised care, collaborating with researchers globally, and leading in long COVID treatment and advocacy.

I guess I'm a little touchy about people making attributions about other people's negative pregnancy outcomes, because there's always an implication of fault - either "She should have --" or "She shouldn't have --." But there is simply no way to know. Yes, covid infection is absolutely associated...

Good write up from Wes. Carter’s not perfect, but every other serious candidate is running to his right and backed by the whiny Nimbys who make it impossible to get anything done around here. He’s also presided over real improvements as the city slowly shakes off covid and its associated upheavals.

6/ but I'm also aware of reports in the literature of effects associated primarily with 2nd and 3rd trimester exposures. The current Harvard study of covid/autism found the greatest effect associated with 3rd trimester infections.

2. The 2040 plan is a genuinely good policy, but research shows that zoning changes don't much to help struggling lower income households (See Freemark). Top line numbers miss how rents and housing cost burdens are still rising for lower-income renters in Minneapolis.
Data show that rents have risen much more slowly in Minneapolis compared with other cities since the COVID-19 pandemic; however, top-line numbers mask significant disparities among income groups. Average rent data may show stable or even declining rents relative to inflation, but rents for lower-income renters are rising much more quickly than those for affluent renters. A household is considered cost-burdened if it spends more than 30% of its income on housing. Our analysis of the most recent census data available shows that the share of all Minneapolis households that were cost-burdened declined slightly between 2018 and 2023. In 2018, the census estimates that 48.2% of Minneapolis renters were cost-burdened, and by 2023, that number had fallen slightly to 46.7%. However, all of the drop in cost-burden rates happened among middle- and upper-income renters. While the cost-burden rate for renters making more than $50,000 decreased by 1.5 percentage points, for renters making less than $50,000, the share of cost-burdened households increased by 7.5 percentage points, meaning over 80% of lower-income Minneapolis renters were cost-burdened in 2023. To be clear, Minneapolis is doing somewhat better than many other major cities. At the same time, 4 out of 5 low-income renter households struggling to pay rent does not suggest that Minneapolis has solved the problem of housing affordability. Freemark’s (2020) evaluation of Chicago, too, finds significant increases in upzoned property values (even as he does not identify new housing construction, as noted above). Parcels with about a 20 percent boost in allowed density had a 15 to 23.3 percent increase in sales prices, with the increase capitalized between six months and two years after rezoning. Property owners received a windfall from the reform, and buyers were willing to pay more for potential future development rights. Liao (2022), too, finds a 7 to 10 percent increase in per-unit housing costs within upzoned New York neighborhoods, though with limited statistical significance. We find that reforms that loosen restrictions are associated with a statistically significant 0.8% increase in housing supply within three to nine years of reform passage, accounting for new and existing stock. This increase occurs predominantly for units at the higher end of the rent price distribution; we find no statistically significant evidence that additional lower-cost units became available or moderated in cost in the years following reforms. However, impacts are positive across the affordability spectrum and we cannot rule out that impacts are equivalent across different income segments. Conversely, reforms that increase land-use restrictions and lower allowed densities are associated with increased median rents and a reduction in units affordable to middle-income renters.

Key findings: 4.8% of pregnancies were SARS-CoV-2 exposed. 16.3% of exposed children had a neurodevelopmental diagnosis by age 3, compared to 9.7% of unexposed. Adjusted odds ratio: 1.29 (95% CI 1.05–1.57, P = .01). Effects were strongest for third-trimester exposure and among male offspring. Conclusion: Maternal COVID-19 infection during pregnancy was associated with an increased risk of neurodevelopmental diagnoses by age 3, particularly following third-trimester infection and in boys.

This year’s flu season also produced a record 410,000 lab-confirmed cases of influenza, according to the RACGP. More than 10% of Australia’s flu infections occurred in children under five, which Wright described as a “wake-up call” after estimates of falling vaccination rates, with just one in four children under five given a flu shot in 2025.

Lmao the irony of this is too strong. Like the vaccine doesn't fully prevent getting covid, more so lower the risk of severe cases. But the fact that lowering risk of covid through vax could also then be associated with lower risk of autism is kinda funny seeing how ppl believe vaccine conspiracies🤷🏼‍♀️
