A WiP shot of my two new auxiliary cohorts, part based. These are going to be the Tungrians, who supported the Batavians at Mons Graupius. They are lovely old Foundry minis with a couple of Aventine centurions. They are the work of four different painters, including Shaun McTague and myself.

Progress at last! At least one of the half finished bases cluttering up my desk got finally finished. Figures Victrix with Aventine heads and Gripping Beast casualty. Only wish those Victrix capes weren't so 'flowy'

Really doesn't seem all that long ago. Agnes Obel debut album 'Philharmonics' (2010, Hi-Res DL).
Wonderful album and more to follow after this one with 'Aventine' and 'Citizen of Glass' being well worth a listen 😎👍

So as to prove I'm still painting, here's a WIP of one of my Roman heroes for #Midgard. Metallics still to do, followed by basibg. Figures are Victrix with Aventine heads while the slain one comes from Gripping Beast.

Being at The Kolbe Hotel, by the Palatine Hill, the ancient fora, Capitoline Hill, the circus maximus and the Aventine beyond, was just the best experience. The Kolbe is a gorgeous hotel in a former monastery.

Heraclitus was inspired by an ancient Greek decorative theme known as ‘unswept floor’ (asàrotos òikos). He created this mosaic, seemingly covered with scraps of food from a banquet, for the dining room of a villa on the Aventine Hill in Rome. Read more: understandingrome.substack.com/p/the-unswep...

Holy shit, these are some good motherfucking metals from Aventine Miniatures (and you know I fucking hate metals).

Any historicals manufacturer who isn't putting painted minis on the storefront is harming both sales and the hobby.

It’s not really a good analogy for lots of reasons. But the shutdown in some ways reminds me of the Aventine Parliament.

#OnThisDay - 1 November - in AD 36, according to the Fasti at Ostia, Tiberius gave 100 million sesterces to rebuild areas in Rome around the Circus and the Aventine that had been damaged by fire. #AncientHistory 🏺

The last of the Romans... or something along those lines. After a little Green Stuff and a head swap these formerly Late Romans are now proper Middle Imperial Romans. Figures by Footsore Miniatures, heads by Aventine Miniatures. Now I only need a little time to also paint these fellas

Related to Father Liber, The Roman god of the working classes and winemaking, among other lovable things. We should start celebrating his holiday, Liberalia, on March 17 (Irish priests tried to appropriate the date but Irish people kept its nature) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liber

Probably this one. It was very experimental but it came out alright. So after that I thought maybe I should do more shit like this.

He's a Cluniac, #Cluniac, on the floor / And he's praying like he's never prayed before! #SpoliaSunday takes us to the #spolia rich #crypt of #SantAlessio on the #Aventine in #Rome, where a reformist community of monks reused a #Romanesque #ciborium to built the abbot's #throne.

Some of their Late Roman range. I especially like the kneeling figures as they work very well with some of the A&A poses thrusting their shields up in the air. And yes, Footsore and Victrix get Aventine Niederbiber type helmeted heads and, if I feel like it, the broad balteus sculpted on.

"Well, being captain on the Aventine I don't really get to enjoy being social that much, most of my time is paperwork and the only people who'll date me are civilians like Vash."

One thing I couldn't help noticing about Rome was the number of couples getting their wedding photos taken. This couple were up on the Aventine Hill for theirs. The views across the valley were stunning, they both must have been roasting in the early summer heat. #art
