Disabled human, maker, just swimming along. Too disabled to study but still an archaeologist at heart.
@rahaeli.bsky.social I have a very silly question for you. I've been taking 10mg of cetirizine because my dietitian suspects I may have allergies or an antihistamine intolerance problem. Is it uh, normal to suddenly have twice the amount of energy you usually do and no more brainfog?

Btw I forgot to say last night but she approves of the plan we were working on where every time a doctor blows you off and you were right, they have to punch your card, and 10 punches gets you one appointment where a doctor has to do literally any test/experiment you want without arguing
God I love how incandescently furious my GP is about the fucking runaround I'm getting here

The double splitscreen shot from 1:13-1:42 is one of the most insane shots created during the photochemical era.

You’ve got a real woman fondling Maroon and Valiant at both ends of the shot, with the woman’s body hidden by splitscreens that run along the edges of the fluted columns in the BG…

It’s been a pleasure working with Lex and everyone in the politics vertical at Teen Vogue. I’m heartbroken that my column, Disability Visibility, is gone. Teen Vogue was one of the few places that published disabled journalists regularly. I just spent the last 2 months working on my next column
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

That this exquisite chalk stream should be polluted with e-coli, pesticides, cleaning products, industrial chemicals, medicines + toiletries is a tragedy beyond words that could be prevented by improving sewage systems so wastewater is treated 3 times - enough to remove most chemicals + pathogens
September's RIVER OF THE MONTH is…… The River Itchen 🎉

Flowing through the heart of Hampshire, the River Itchen is one of the world’s rare chalk streams and is home to the endangered Atlantic Salmon. 🐟

But this iconic river is in trouble.... 🧵👇

I have been stuck in a bathroom in a foreign country before cellphones and it was terrifying. I now at least spare a thought to the lock on the door and the handle and I really should try it before I close and lock the door.

Also applies to any door which you are not fully sure you will be able to open once it's closed, e.g. an inn room's old bathroom door in which the door handle seems to be slipping, so the bolt does not

When disabled people talk about covid mitigations, they're told eating inside at restaurants is a basic human need, but when disabled people talk about relying on food/grocery delivery, they're told they should subsist entirely on microwave meals that they somehow magic out of thin air.

Exactly this. I often feel like I’m in storage. #NEISVoid
There’s a special kind of grief that chronically ill and disabled folks know of watching huge parts of life pass by while your body, try as it might, simply hurts too much or is too exhausted or dysregulated to do a single thing except try to stay alive from one moment to the next.

Yes, and I’ve been noticing this pattern as a disability historian. When people got ‘fed up’ with taking precautions and blamed vulnerable people for their boredom, grief or trauma, the ableism just exploded. Openly eugenicist ideas espoused in mainstream outlets, the r-word becoming ‘acceptable’
Just so we’re all clear, and for the dozenth time: there is a direct through line between our society deciding that we’re fine with disabled and immunocompromised ppl dying and being driven out of public life so we can all have fun and the resurgence of this word

Certainly encouraging public engagement in historical research, yet this @theguardian.com opinion piece, again, perpetuates an outdated notion:

🏺 #Archaeology is *not* about objects. Just digging up old stuff is of little help in understanding "the past" if contextual information is abandoned.
