This is another semi-regular reminder that hot people mask (I mean, look at @malyndae.bsky.social 😍) because masking is love and resistance and anti-fascist. Masking is community care, and community care is radical in this age. Be hot. Wear a mask.

When I was a law clerk, I went to naturalization ceremonies that my judge presided over. The people in those rooms were absolutely overflowing with love and gratitude for the opportunity to be Americans. Their love of this country renewed my own at the time.

This is fucking barbaric.

Disabled people deserve healthcare.

Disabled people deserve housing.

Disabled people deserve food.

Disabled people deserve support.

Our ability to work and produce should not determine our value.

Disability is not a moral failing. Most people will experience it someday.

As Justice Kagan begins her dissent by pointing out, what is even the point of trial, of fact-finding, of clear error, of standards of review, when the Supreme Court simply ignores every single part of that and decides everything purely on the papers without any real consideration of the facts?

#BREAKING: Over dissents from the three democratic appointees, #SCOTUS puts Texas's new House maps back into effect for (and, presumably, through) the 2026 midterms.

The three Democratic appointees, in an opinion by Justice Kagan, dissent.

I'll post the ruling shortly.

I am generally of the view that the money in my retirement accounts is none of my business, but I log in every now & then for a vibe check, and one of the many alarming things I have learned in 2025 is that the stock market does not give a single shit about fascism

Statehood for D.C. is an ethical obligation at this point, required to protect the rights of our residents to govern ourselves against such out-of-state troops being sent to patrol our city.
NEW: Republican-led states, in a new filing at the D.C. Circuit, say D.C. residents are irrelevant, D.C. belongs to everyone else. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

The filing is led by the South Carolina and West Virginia attorneys general. Both states sent troops to DC.

I've spent the last 6 years getting comfortable with identifying as disabled, after spending my first 35 years denying it even to myself. It wasn't easy! We live in a society that fundamentally hates disabled people and thinks our lives are worthless, so embracing the identity is a big choice.

I’m back at Columbia med for my 3x/year cancer checkups in a packed waiting room with ~30 people, at least 3 of whom have terrifyingly productive coughs, & zero masks. It’s got to be a sign of the decay of civilization that my riskiest activities are medical appointments to try not to die of cancer

One thing to note about Bove’s response re: whistleblower report is that he didn’t explicitly deny making the “fuck you” comment.

Would be interesting to see his response if a senator directly asks him if he denies saying that

This feels especially evident on the roads. People are dramatically worse drivers than they were 10 years ago. Some combination of increased distraction from technology, COVID cognitive decline, & the disregard for human life we were told was acceptable during the push to return to 2019 ways of life
That begs the question: why has everyone lost their damn minds?

And the answer I think is Phone x COVID x Neoliberalism = everyone is insane.

These horrible deaths are the expected consequence of abandoning the basic societal premise of disease avoidance, and it was never going to be containable to just covid.

And also if you suggest anything like the below logic about children getting endless covid infections, people FREAK OUT.
It boggles my mind that parents in these situations are not charged with negligence and child endangerment at the minimum.

Your child dying from a preventable disease because you fell for an internet hoax should have consequences. That is a life lost.
