A million people dead and people on the right still complain about how horrible our barely enforced quarantine and masking policies were. The right wing is a death cult.
It’s so striking when people focus on how horrible they felt it was they were encouraged to stay home when they could in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic and not how horrible it felt to see hundreds of thousands of people pass away from COVID-19 in the US and millions around the world.

When it comes to trans rights, the BBC has been reversing through the marketplace of ideas, smashing into fruit carts. But it's interesting that its conservative critics still regard the broadcaster as a font of pro-trans propaganda. How odd! Perhaps a few more concessions will win them over?
Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

Interesting how the arrest doctrine here, in a 1865 Massachusetts case, amounted to a sort of exclusionary rule. You had a right to resist arrest if the warrant was an unlawful, so whether the conviction for rioting could be upheld depended on the particularity of the warrant.

American sports thinks that the audience has to be constantly stimulated and assaulted from all senses. It’s really ridiculous going to sporting events and realizing that there’s not one moment where you’re not being overwhelmed by something.

News is coming to me via friends on Facebook, and via Fancyclopedia, that John Varley, who wrote Millennium, Steel Beach, and the Gaea trilogy (Titan, Wizard, Demon) has died. He was an excellent writer in the Campbell/Heinlein tradition, and I dug him a lot in my teens and early 20s. RIP.
