I am heartened by all the solidarity shown to Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah.

At the same time, if all of those ABC journalists reported truthfully on the Gaza genocide from the beginning, none of this would have happened. Zionists would not have had impunity to destroy culture here.

This is 10th-grader Arnoldo Bazan.

A citizen.

Immigration agents grabbed him and put him in a chokehold.

"We're from the United States bro!' he screamed.

Agents took and sold his phone

And when he finally got home hours later, his shirt was ripped, he neck had angry, red welts, and he sobbed.

I was recently reading about the making of the (terrible) Star Trek Nazi Planet episode and the nice 1960s writer was like, "I just wanted to explore this incomprehensible thing that happened, how could a society do this to itself" and buddy I doubt you are still alive but here we are
This exactly. U.S. and European culture uniformly showing the villainy of the Nazis, and the heroism of the leaders and the millions of volunteers on the Allied side—Evelyn Waugh, Kurt Vonnegut, James Stewart, Audrey Hepburn!—every film, every TV show, every thriller in the bookshop. And now this?
It's weird thinking about all the history classes where we were sold ideas about decency, inclusiveness, democracy etc. Even if they were aspirational simplifications of nuanced history, I can't believe how many people were like, 'No. The Nazis were cool, slavery is good, ethnic cleansing is good.'

A few months ago, ICE hired me

I didn't sign and submit any paperwork. I almost certainly failed the drug test. I'm real outspoken about my opposition to the Trump administration, and I am extremely googlable

And yet, there it was, in plain English. "Welcome to ICE!"

What happens when you do minimal screening before hiring agents, arming them, and sending them into the streets? We're all finding out.

"I think when we look back on this history we will see a masterclass in poor governance, an act of cultural vandalism, a moment when 180 writers said, 'We will not support censorship. We will not support the denigration of one particular writer,'" Ms Adler told 7.30.

Politicians and people who only loosely can be called “journalists” have attributed meaning to Dr Abdel-Fattah’s words that are just so far away from her actual words. You don’t have a right to “cultural safety” if you think Palestinian children should be blown up — it’s absurd.

It was one of the very first YA books in this country to represent a part of the Australian Muslim experience. She has contributed to the fabric of modern Australia.

Things the Bondi RC could examine to aid our public discourse:

-The difference between antisemitism and anti-zionism, and why it is dangerous to conflate them
-The impact of Israel's conduct on perceptions of Israel, and by extension Jewish people, due to the unfair conflation of Israel and Judaism
For over two years now we've been having the same argument over what constitutes antisemitism. Is it possible that the royal commission could actually contribute meaningfully to the public dialogue?
Could the Bondi royal commission actually be good for our public discourse?
Probably not, but imagine finally having a substantive national conversation about what constitutes antisemitism.

As Rachel acknowledges, it may well be difficult getting these things high on the agenda at the Bondi RC.

But we have no choice, if we are to overcome the forces of darkness.

And the big response to the "spineless cancellation" of Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah’s invite to the AF gives grounds for hope.
