The real reason CBS didn't let Colbert air his interview with James Talarico is that the Ellisons are still trying to buy Warner Bros.

David Ellison runs Paramount, which owns CBS.

He's using CBS to show what loyal oligarchs they are as they seek FCC approval for a WBD deal.

And yet, every day, our most prominent Democratic politicians, scholars, public intellectuals, universities & university leaders, & other civil society organizations continue to use his platform as their primary social media outlet. One cannot help but notice this & draw conclusions.
The world's richest man is broadcasting eliminationist rhetoric about a tiny, vulnerable minority, and virtually no one is going to treat it as a scandal. It's just normal now.

RIP to Jesse Jackson, who in this debate w/David Duke in 1977 delivered (until the host cut him off) a message of unity and against "national isolationism" that's important to hear today. He also ended the show w/one of the sickest burns ever directed at Duke: "You're not even a legitimate Klansman"

I am gutted for the students who struggled with the experience, and I am angry for them that they have to pay extortionate fees at all. That, in fact, is one of the things we have fought against during years of strikes.

But *everyone* suffered, some considerably more than this, during a pandemic.
This is emblematic of the consumer culture that fees have engendered.

What the hell did the students expect? It was a ONCE IN A CENTURY PANDEMIC. There were LAWS against congregating in public. Staff worked themselves to the bone to get online delivery working.

I think it’s time for Democratic leaders to start saying “if you’re a pilot or ground crew involved in a deportation that was stayed by a judge, you’ll be held criminally liable for human trafficking.” Everyone involved in these flights should have that fear in the back of their minds.
Overnight, this probable ICE flight landed in Benin and is now returning to Senegal, likely for a crew layover.

Reading this morning that the FBI won’t give evidence from the various ICE shootings to Minnesota or anybody else and I want to point out again that as a person that has studied Jim Crow violence- simply refusing to hand over evidence is a favorite tactic of segregationists.

Most viruses can survive for one to several hours in a poorly ventilated room. See the excellent article in @nytimes.com on this topic: nypost.com/2026/02/14/h...

“The hospital admitting room, where somebody tonight is dying because they cannot afford to go upstairs to a bed that’s empty waiting for someone with insurance to get sick. We are a better nation than that. We must do better.”

Jesse Jackson’s message of what America could be still resonates.

Complaining that following the Constitution will stop you from doing the thing you want to do is... an admission that what you want to do is unconstitutional.

You swore an oath to defend the Constitution. You are violating that oath, Rep. Alford. Time to go home and let someone else do the job.

I think the AI situation is a similar phenomenon to gun ownership. No one is necessarily against the *gun*, but we don't trust what others might do with it (...because SO MANY have proven themselves untrustworthy). This is probably what people mean, but the argument hasn't been well made.
