Blue states need to immediately pass a law directing state law enforcement officers to detain anyone performing an arrest or detention in public while masked or failing to visibly display identifying credentials, for the purpose of protecting public safety. And yes, they can do so.

Howdy folks,
As the most of the data and tools used by the office are currently no longer available, services provided by the Office of the Texas State Climatologist will be drastically impacted to discontinued due to the laps of federal funding for the NOAA Regional Climate Centers.

Oh no! Several of the Regional Climate Centers have had their funding lapse through DOC/NOAA. These institutes are critical for connecting weather and climate data and services to local communities across the United States.

Spread the word to drive attention and support!

We often (rightly) see maps like these showing how good SPC convective outlooks are; let's also give some kudos to WPC for some outstanding excessive rainfall outlooks for this event. Especially impressive are the day 5 outlooks, giving advance notice of prolonged excessive rainfall and flood risk.

The area around Mobile, AL received from 5 to more than 10 inches of rain in the past 24 hours, with the highest amounts south and west of the city. Hats off to our #CoCoRaHS observers for their reports!

If you're outside and a thunderstorm approaches, quickly move to a safe place!

The lightning crouch hasn't been recommended in 17 years, so don't use it...just keep heading towards your safe place!

As the daughter of a meteorologist, seeing the gutting of NOAA is one of the most infuriating things to watch. There's literally no downside to have an organization that prevents wide-scale human (and economic!) damage.
The U.S. NWS is a truly world-class meteorological predictive service, perhaps singularly so. Its cost of operation is only ~$3-4/yr per taxpayer—equivalent to a single cup of coffee—and yields a truly remarkable return on investment (at least 10 to 1, and perhaps 100 to 1).
