“The dogmas of the quiet past, are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise - with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country.”

The fuck will sending NYPD do, Chuck? Give them tips on how to better brutalize people? Get this old fuck outta here dawg
MS NOW: Why haven't you gotten a dozen Dem senators & NYC cops, flown to Minneapolis & said to the guys wearing masks 'We've brought people who know how to operate'

SCHUMER: You're right. We need police officers to tell ICE, 'You don't know what the hell you're doing. You need real police training'

Thank you @jamellebouie.net. ICE are thugs, kidnappers and murderers. We cannot allow this barbarous cruelty to continue.

DHS tweeted this yesterday. Little more than 24 hours later, ICE agents just shot and killed a legal observer in Minneapolis.

And like it or not, the straight/objective news isn’t going to report stuff as potentially impeachable unless the party that is supposed to be opposed to the president and biased against him talks about it as impeachable and files articles of impeachment

“Well… we can’t just keep filing impeachment articles all the time.”

Yes you can! If the man is committing impeachable offenses on the regular, you’re acquiescing to a standard that raises the bar for impeachable offense to absurd levels.
How are voters meant to understand how serious things are if in lieu of shouting fire AND going into building with hoses, you're simply posting fire safety suggestions on social media?
Not introducing articles of impeachment is a message that Trump hasn't committed impeachable offenses.

Secretaries Rubio and Hegseth looked every Senator in the eye a few weeks ago and said this wasn’t about regime change. I didn’t trust them then and we see now that they blatantly lied to Congress.
President Trump said on Saturday that the U.S. had captured the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro. Follow live updates. www.nytimes.com/live/2026/01...

It's striking that progressives like Tim Walz and Zohran Mamdani evoke the middle American attitude that, "Yes, we can fix these social problems because we're Americans and it's the right thing to do!" While the "America first" right only emulates failed and failing nation-states elsewhere.

a required skill for being able to use an LLM in any professional capacity is discernment, essentially already being an expert in the field so you know when (and why) its outputs are incorrect.

now, LLMs are being deployed to non-expert groups in a way that ensures they will never *be* experts
suspect a big reason why many academics and others who work in areas where getting facts RIGHT is key are disinterested in using LLMs for research:

they’ve tried it, they keep noticing major errors in output, and they conclude that having to verify all that doesn’t actually save them time.

Ahmed al Ahmed, the man who tackled one of the Bondi killers, became an Australian citizen 3 years ago.

His deed was "his way of conveying his gratitude for staying in Australia, for being granted citizenship."

He took 5 bullets, and fears he'll lose his left arm.

ICE PEPPER SPRAYED A ONE-YEAR-OLD because her mother was filming them.
ICE pepper-sprayed this 1-year-old girl.

Once at the hospital, the doctor had to call in a poison control specialist.

They had never seen anyone that young pepper sprayed.

Another horrific story.

More details below.

there is a certain condescension in the idea that “racism should be publicly unacceptable and come with consequences” is an attack on the “working class.”

it tends to accentuate one of the bigger issues with "technology must serve the greater good." whose good? you see this come into play a lot with how anti-AI criticism has now become co-determinous with late 90s industry piracy rhetoric about copyright

If you think your job is not to tell the truth but to "challenge your audience's assumptions" if the latter is in tension with the former then you're going to end up lying. bsky.app/profile/larr...
For my part, I would say that questioning the framing of some Times stories—for example, the highlighting of Trump’s putative emotions or the foregrounding of what he says (even when, as is often the case, what he says is false)—is not an indication that I want my “views validated.”

It is worth remembering that these are people who loyally fought alongside us for 20 years while Miller was enduring the harrowing experience of writing press releases
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization
