To add to the discourse: getting older is wild. You naturally get bigger, you develop wrinkles, and your hair turns gray. And there is this whole industry dedicated to making you hate each and every one of these things and fight it with all of your being.
As we move into Hate Yourself Publicly Season, I also wish for us a year in which we have the courage to value ourselves for who we are & not hate ourselves for who we're not, a year in which we listen not to those who line their pockets with our insecurities, but to voices of tenderness & respect.

Without robust data collection on vaccination, you cannot have vaccine policy informed by evidence.
States will no longer have to report how many children they vaccinate to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Another attack on vaccine policy.

Silicon Valley’s alliance with Donald Trump was a mask off moment and showed the world we can’t depend on US tech companies.

For the past few months, I’ve been trying to get off US tech and I put together a guide so you find alternatives too. I hope you find it helpful!

Great piece about how the MAGA/MAHA academics running the federal public health agencies—& dismantling public health—“manufactured doubt” about science during the pandemic, using tobacco industry-type tactics (see also blogs.bmj.com/bmj/2021/09/...)

Archived version at archive.ph/2021.11.09-1...
And as a blast from that terrible past, the motivations are sadly often backed by interests that reward this behavior with power and money. I still think we have not done enough to train scientists to counter the doubt machine... www.nature.com/articles/d41...

I've been working since 2022 to try to form the basis for an alternative reading of sovereignty fit for the polycrisis and promoting true, just and internationalist transitions. This view of popular ecological sovereignty is in a few articles, but I just reflected on it in the context of COP30 too:
Ecological sovereignty: from mutual annihilation to true planetary longevity?
When fossil fuel expansion is justified in the name of national sovereignty, you know states have lost touch with the climate reality.
