I simply hope to live my life in such a way that Isaac Chotiner will never have a reason to ask me a single question
Amazing to learn that Isaac Chotiner can apparently just come for you in your replies. Like suddenly realizing you're swimming in open ocean

Shout-out to @mollyrookwood.bsky.social and @brennabaileybooks.bsky.social, who I learn so much from regularly! And to my fellow editors @paizo.com, who are a delight to work with and some of the funniest and most creative people I know 💜
By the way, it's National Editor Appreciation Day.

Nobody ever reads a great article and thinks, "Dang, that was some tight editing." But editing is a big part of how it got to be great.

So writers, if you've ever worked with a good editor, shout 'em out.

Patient came in with sore throat. While waiting for rapid Strep test result we glanced back at the Covid-19 RAT result: positive. Reminder that masking in health care makes sense, if you don’t want everyone in your waiting room to go home sick, your staff to get sick, and physicians to get sick.

I know the war is already lost, but I believe we should attempt to do something about branding with days of the week. "Black Friday deals starting this Sunday." Unacceptable. "It's a Thursday edition of Sunday Night Football" no it's not, that isn't true.

The thing where every retail outlet in the country has started having "Black Friday" sales in Mid-November in a desperate bid to get people to spend money does not fill me with confidence for the state of the economy.

Can we also talk about how a bunch of jobs that are mostly dominated by women now have had their eligibility for student loans for their education removed in the US, mostly education, therapists and other medical roles #politics

I am an Indigenous journalist working in Indian Country on beats for energy, business, landback, and more.

I realize I've spent quite a lot of time on BlueSky asking for money, and I apologize, but my already strained finances will become immeasurably worse if I cannot work.

Please help my friend if you can!!
Hey, all. I woke up this morning to discover that a lot of my things were stolen during a break-in.

Several things were crucial to my day job, and renter insurance will take time to pay out, if at all. I need to quickly replace a laptop and tablet.

Please share if you can.

I really can't stress how important it is for progressive and leftists to contend for school, library, water, etc etc boards. Hyper local involvement in our communities where we can actually influence lives.

The best description I ever read of copy editors is this, from Lawrence Downes in 2008:

“The copy editor’s job, to the extent possible under deadline, is to slow down, think things through, do the math and ask the irritating question.”

One thing I love about @prismreports.org is that they work so closely with incarcerated writers, and surface things I had never thought about before. This piece on how extended incarceration is a violation of reproductive rights by functionally serving as involuntary sterilization is fantastic.
Long prison sentences function as involuntary sterilization of incarcerated people
By keeping me imprisoned through the years when I might have become a parent, the prison system reproduces eugenicist logic

I've seen this go by a few times on TikTok now and I have to say, I love this idea. We need a way to convince people to keep running even if they don't win, maybe building the loss into it as a troll move is the secret.
