Absolutely astounding how:

-trivial most of the benefits of AI to teachers discussed here are (a few minutes here, a different way to do an old or "fun" thing there)
-vague the nods to ethics are
-common the pushes to use it are (FOMO, "don't be left behind," "need to learn about it," save time)
AI has become the norm for students. Teachers are playing catch-up.
At a New York City training session, educators explored how artificial intelligence could support teaching while also discussing their concerns around the technology.

I’ve made a copy of the 60 Minutes INSIDE CECOT segment. If Substack takes it down, I’ll put it up on my website. I know there are cleaner copies out there, but I kinda like the punk rock bootlegged version. The link is in my pinned post if you haven’t seen it yet.

I forget if I mentioned this before but the funniest thing about the David Brooks thing is it would not have been hard to put it in his column: turn it into an interesting reported first person scene in which you’ve seen the man up close and personal during his failed post conviction rehab tour in…

The Epstein story gets a something that is tearing at the heart of the electorate: elite impunity. The idea that wealthy and powerful people can do terrible things *at scale* and face no consequences for them. Whatever political party actually stops it could rule the country for a generation.

the symbolism of “Trump destroying the White House for a overpriced luxury vanity project, during a government shut down, days after a historically-large mass demonstration against his regime called “No Kings”’ would be rightly viewed as laying it on a little thick if it was in a work of fiction

Please fill this out, and consider noting that you don't really care what a government program costs. They will absolutely use those innocent little questions like I only want this if it's cheap for the government to Nix the program. Every dollar we spend on the IRS gets multiple dollars back!

The IRS wants Americans to weigh in on Direct File, the agency's free tax filing program.

We already know Direct File has been widely popular and successful.

The program could save Americans billions annually between filing fees and time costs.

Not everybody needs to be a strawberry. There’s room for cranberries in this world too. You can be weird and sour and only tolerated by people around the holidays because they grew up with you. I know you can. You can be fun when mixed with enough vodka. I believe in you. You can live in a bog.

the “AI” in pacman and modern day generative “AI” happen to use the same word, but they have absolutely nothing to do with each other

one is a hand written decision tree the other is machine learning

law professors have been unable to understand why people are actually concerned about this case. it’s not about nationwide injunctions per se, it’s about a court that waited until the issue hurt the GOP, and then intervened on behalf of one of the most egregious constitutional violations we’ve seen
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson called yesterday's decision about nationwide injunctions "an existential threat to the rule of law."

She's mistaken.
