Saying it again. You do *not* have to be the most accomplished artist in the world to make an excellent comic that speaks to people and communicates your truths.

You gotta imagine that there’s ten or more kids in the school that have been drawing their own comics that are getting a really rough introduction to how little people value someone with an art career

Today I learned that there was a LOOK-IN comic strip of MICHAEL BENTINE'S POTTY TIME and that Arthur Ranson was involved on the art side. No idea if this is his work. Not holding my breath for a Treasury of British Comics collection though...

Every few months he trots this out hoping that this time the comics community isn't going to go ape****.

And then the community drags him for a full 24 hours and he goes into hiding again.

Where the link takes you on the aicomicbooks site if you want to see the list of their "creators".

Seems... appropriate. #NoAIArt

As Storehouse East is a 5 minute walk from work I popped over this morning before I started and pleased to say the @brokenfrontier.bsky.social Anthology is still on display as part of the comics exhibit. I am going to confidently say BF is the only comics commentary site to be featured at the V&A.

Back in Autumn 2024 I decided I would start reading every one of Dickens' novels in order as a fun downtime non-comics project. Here we are 15 months later and I am happy to announce I am now 70% of the way through THE PICKWICK PAPERS.

The FOMO has finally gotten to me. Just ordered this issue from the website and taken out a subscription. The magazines will come addressed to my children, but really, they're for me as much as them!
THE PHOENIX #727 - the best single periodical comics issue of 2025. Meta genius as the events of one strip invade the rest of the comic.

The birth of our solar system - at last, closing up the penultimate page of this mammoth chapter exploring the origin of the universe in all its swirls of different sorts... It's been a long trip. And there is, to be sure, a lot going on on this page :)
Onward!

Might need to freshen up my Bluesky bio. "Last decades of his life" feels a little passé now.

THE FURY OF FIRESTORM #49 (1986) - I read the first part of this Moonbow story nearly 40 years ago. If only teen Andy had known he’d be in his fifties before he’d see the resolution. Did Moonbow ever appear in costume again?

Rampant transphobia rears its toxic head yet again this week.

Trans women will not be allowed to attend main Labour Women's Conference events
The conference will take place in 2026 after being cancelled for a year in light of the Supreme Court's gender ruling.

My employer, Dartmouth College, today boasts it's 1st Ivy "to launch AI at an institutional scale." It is doing this by partnering--"more than a collaboration"--with Anthropic, a company that stole the books of many faculty, me included, which many of us are suing.
