Let’s be honest: nothing Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin have done in the last 56 years justifies the tremendous cost of bringing them back from the moon. NASA should’ve spared the long-suffering taxpayer and left them up there

This is your annual reminder that the Time Person of the Year award is NOT meant as an endorsement, for example they gave the award to Adolf Hitler in 1938, 1939, 1940, 1941, 1942, and 1943 (when the magazine was renamed Hitler Monthly)

Spotted a 60-something man on the beach reading Olivia Nuzzi’s “American Canto.” His wife is nearby. She has Mar-a-Lago face and is wearing a trucker hat that says “Sun. Yoga. Champagne.” She’s been watching a live cam feed of her front door on a comically large tablet for the last 20 minutes.

Controversial take but I agree that if you have even center left politics you should be barefoot wearing a barrel with suspenders. You should have a wallet with a single moth and nothing else in it. You should be slicing up a single bean paper thin and eating it slowly on a trash can lid

Got the urge to work on a project I’ve been ignoring for several months, but I’m out running errands. All good though, I’m sure I’ll feel the same when I get home

the idea that poptimism = you must like most popular pop (let alone poptimism = stan culture or w/e) is so pernicious when it gets discussed, it's a real relief to have another actually solid explanation of what it meant when it happened. because it IS a thing that happened, not a set position.
Once & for all, let's specify what "poptimism" was & wasn't, and why many people can't stop blaming it for every cultural change of the past 20 years. Most recently the esteemed Kelefa Sanneh, who's often (wrongly) said to have started it! Today in @slate.com slate.com/culture/2025...

imo "violence aimed at elites from non-elites" is the category of violence most disfavored in elite discourse. and violence that flows from elites to non-elites is not conceived of as violence at all. and these ideas frame the entire elite conception of who charlie kirk was and what his murder means
I think there are a lot of answers that have already been floated around here, and I've even offered some myself, but I did want to sharpen the question a bit.
