Local artsy theater showed Old Boy recently, and I had seen it, but the person in front of me clearly had not so I spent the whole movie watching their reactions
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

I've been reading a lot of newer horror this year, and a theme I've noticed is a lot of stories revolve around being financially forced to move back into a childhood home

Since becoming a parent I have not, in fact, understood the parents who say “if you were a parent you’d understand” about vaccine hesitancy. Being in charge of this fragile little miracle has me saying things like “give her all the vaccines. Turn this baby into a pincushion” to doctors

“AI is clearly sticking around so you have to get used to it” wrong. I don’t have to get used to shit. I am a practiced hater and I can keep this going for decades if I am required to

A new type of grief I've experienced since having a child is watching your parents treat their grandchild with a pride and compassion you can't remember them having for you

Spouse is such a good father. He will turn off the TV when he's watching sports if he sees the baby watching them too, because he doesn't want her to get too much screentime. Meanwhile, baby and I started watching the godzilla movies together on like day 2

The guy shot two random people with a gun, I don't think you can say he wasn't assimilating into our culture
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

I'm old.

If you're not, listen to this.

Get a guitar or some drums, or a trumpet. Pick up a brush, a pencil, some clay or a welder.

Just make shit. It doesn't have to be good (eventually it will be) just make music, art or write or whatever.

It's literally never been more important.

One of the purposes of this is, obviously, to completely alienate people from their intellectual and creative labor. When "write an article" becomes "push the big red GIMME SLOP button" you're gonna have less pride and investment in the outcome.

A chatgpt user will *never* experience the experience of finding the task of researching and organizing an essay or program or story, shockingly easier than it used to be.

A genAI user will *never* find an artistic task effortless that was once enormously frustrating.

"Holy shit, look at me, I'm doing something that just a year or so ago I found really hard and stressful and confusing, but it's second nature now."

Generative AI deliberately removes this, entirely, from learning.

"No one likes turkey" is, I feel, one of those terminally online takes that people just kind of absorb from being on the internet too much. Like the rage over pineapple on pizza or having an opinion about how to hang toilet paper rolls.

I don't think it's a good thing to tell very depressed people that they have no hope of being less depressed as long as we are under capitalism

We read our baby the classic children's book "I'll Love You Forever" last night and there's a scene where the mother breaks into the second story window of her grown son's home using a ladder 🪜 so she can sing him the little song

Are we ranking Star Wars? Here's mine:
1. The Lego Star Wars games for GameCube
2. The Last Jedi, but only before Rise of Skywalker came out
3. Wernor Herzog saying "I'd like to see the baby."
4. The "Jonathan Starwarse and the dog who is allowed to own a gun" Clickhole article
