Stopping for red lights light might be out of style.
Now we stop for green lights.

Hypothesis: it depends on the strength of the Mayor's office. For a Mayor whose role is to put on a robe for photo-ops and signings, and cast a tie-breaking vote at city council, a transition team would be small.
Are these large mayoral transition committees a common thing in the US?

First it was Mamdani raising millions and having 400 people on teams to transition into office. But even Seattle, which has only 800,000 people.

I’m not aware of anything this large/formal in cities I follow here.

"Street of only transit and/or local access."
English native speakers, what would be the right way of wording this long compound noun?
Transit-and-local-access-only street or transit- and local-access-only street?

Euro-German data privacy: Where did it go ?
In Cologne, KVB rental bike locations are available through an open API. I collected minute-by-minute positions of rented bikes on Nov 25, 2025. A map shows the path of one bike.

Too subtle, but yes.
The fact doomers have gone from "America is over" to "Dems won't hold anyone responsible when this is over" can actually be read as an optimistic signal imo.

In context, using PNW at 1:40 into the video makes sense. Many people (though perhaps less so in your audience) will not realize Vancouver and Vancouver Island are disjoint, more so than Long Island City, NY is not on Long Island, NY. So good if you to put up the map.
I’m surprised to see a few people bothered by the term “Pacific Northwest“.

I get that it’s not as used here in Canada, and that not everyone in ON/QC will recognize it.

But apparently there are people in BC who reject the term.

Ask people to put a pin on a globe at where they think PNW is, they will come close to Victoria. Give them a big sticker, and they will cover Victoria.

Terms Cascades and PNW are used more often in ecology and geography to represent a 200 km coastal band from Whistler down to at least Eugene OR.

As motivation, look at this puzzle

Existing theories predict homeowners in dense areas should be the biggest opponents of more density in already-dense areas--it's their backyard!

But homeowners on corridors are actually *most* supportive of AB 2011-style upzoning of corridors!

I looked at that picture and figured the busses were parked that way to make a point about cars parked at the bus stop. [ I did not read the original Norwegian as would a Transportation Secretary www.nytimes.com/2019/04/24/m... ].

This project from ICLEI Southeast Asia allowed people to rate footpaths and pedestrian crossings in their community. They conducted a project in Quezon City and Pasig City, Philippines, where participants reviewed footpaths, crossings, and intersections using the Walkability app created by Walk21.

In terms of years and $billions per mile to build, and operating frequency, #REM is easily 10x better managed than most USA transit projects.

Counterpoint: Upzoned Griffintown still doesn't have a REM station, but does suffer from screeching trains on bends.

Indeed. After getting out of the driveway/building and onto the road/pathways, it is self evident that the design should be about transportation; place making should be adjacent to the road.

Need an update of 'Don’t be a wuss, hop on the bus, Guss" ?

Ride your bike on the Turnpike
Go hard on the Boulevard
Sprint all day on the Parkway
Strive to arrive alive on the Drive
With #Strava train in the Lane
Scoot along the Route
Funnel through the Tunnel
Be fleet on the Street.
I don’t like how Seattle calls bike lanes and urban bike routes “trails”. It makes it sound informal and leisurely. These are actual bike roads that get people to work, school, and to run errands. They aren’t for joy riding in the park

Drive to, park once, do many things, lifestyle power centers deserve more love from urbanists.
Potemkin mullets with businesses in front and long parking in the back.

However, they can be easily accessed by bike trail, tram, or light rapid transit to the centre thanks to thoughtful geometry.

Fun fact: Mount Washington NH experiences hurricane-force winds regularly as a normal weather phenomenon, without an actual hurricane (tropical cyclone) being present. The summit averages over 100 days of hurricane-force winds (defined as wind speeds of 74 mph or greater) per year.
That’s some serious wind
Hurricane Melissa produced the fastest hurricane winds to be recorded by a dropsonde, verified by reviewing data at NSF NCAR! Hurricane Melissa’s 252 mph wind gust surpassed the previous record from Typhoon Megi over the Western Pacific in 2010, where a dropsonde measured wind gusts of 248 mph.
